First ever RRS

On a quest to buy my first ever 4x4.
Decided on RRS for size, practicalities & looks (I know:))
As a newbie , the more time I spend looking & researching, the more I get scared.
Yes, I do expect RRS will cost a bit to run and maintain however .... where do I buy.
Two cars from private sellers I've tested were of mixed experience - newer 2007 with ca50k was awful
compared to 2005 with 83k. The latter one had everything I dreamt of and more Smile (2010 conversion)
But I had to walk away due to a deal I have with my finance co.
So I am still looking and due to see Saxon in Essex. That is until I found your forums - not sure I should:(
I have contacted James from LookersPR - waiting to hear from him.

What would you suggest to a newbie like me. Embarassed

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Bonatti Grey

I'd worry a touch less about mileage and more about quality, mines on 110k and feels tight as a drum (touch wood lets hope it stays that way) yet I test drove lower mile examples which didn't feel anywhere near as solid.

I would suggest don't buy the first one you see, be prepared to travel for a good one, don't fall for one with lots of cheesey chrome bling crap on it, and be careful of replica 22 inch wheel's which can't take the weight of the car therefore are prone to cracking. Current: 06 RR Sport HSE TDV6, Bonatti grey, black leather. Defender 90 pick up. Vito 110cdi

Previous: Mercedes CLS, BMW 330cd M sport, Nissan 200sx, Impreza STi, EP3 Civic Type R

Buy as new and as low mileage as you can afford. Buy a clean stock standard car. Conversions to 2010 are worthless so pay for the actual year car you are buying.

Any other modifications are worthless and essentially junk. The more modifications, the narrower the market for re sale.

Don't over stretch yourself financially, its only a car. Try an X5 if you don't want to go off road. Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

Thank you all.
Read the thread on saxon - not sure if I should go there now Sad - best will call them and
cancel as it's only right.

I have had an X5 for 2 weeks as a curtesy car from Mini Thames Ditton - liked it ...however it was
missing the class and I did not feel any different. Problem is that the RRS is to be a compromise between
maturity and youth - both my son (20yo) and I, are to use it Smile

Not planning to overstretch and I am going with a budget in mind - will see whether James can
do some magic Smile

Bought my first Sport using Autotrader to find the exact specification and price I wanted. In the end, found it about three miles from me as a private sale. Had 60,000+ mainly motorway commuting miles on the clock which was above average for year, but i reckoned that at least it would always have warmed up well and it had a full service. Has proved very good apart from needing a new alternator. Fabulous drive.

Local garage, Swinfield Coopers did a pre purchase check for me - they've serviced all my landrovers.

In short, the right car is out there, - best of luck finding it! 1979 Lightweight - NATO green
1983 Lightweight - Iraqi sand
1999 Discovery 2 - Blenheim Silver
2006 RR Sport - Stornaway Grey. Alpaca leather. Privacy glass

mse, there is no more of a gentleman's sausage than someone who claims to be a pilot but won't say what they fly. What is it that you really fly?

D4rius

If you want to feel different and classy (it must be a British thing) then try wearing a hunting jacket and smoking a pipe! You probably have bigger issues than just a car. I don't drive my X5 for class or to be different, there are lots around here. I drive it because its quick, tight, goes around corners a little better than many RRS and I don't need the off road capability. Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

@BKHK not sure how you going to take it Sad Not that I really care - oops so not British thing to say, right???
If I wanted advice about X5 i'd have joined X5 forum - not sure if it exists. If I needed to cover my, allegedly big, issues I'd talk to my wife or a shrink. All I am looking for here is an honest advice from RRS owners - guess the clue is in the title.
Call me sensitive but I do not need your valuable (in your opinion) input.

@Timo - great, honest advice. Thank you sire. As it is going to be my first ever RRS I guess I'd follow your steps.

United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Luxury Fuji White

Hi D4rius

I bought my first RRS a few weeks ago, chopped in my E92 M3 and I absolutely love it, so much so I managed to pick up my first speeding ticket yesterday in 15 years LOL!!!

Anyway I bought mine via an indepedent in Derby simply because of the spec. and mileage/age I was looking for, it was really the only one that met the brief so I went for it.

There really is something about the RR that sets it apart from all other 4x4's so I know where you're coming from, and when I'm sat in traffic and see an X5/Q7/Cayene I can't help but think I am a superior being LOL!!!

Good luck with your search!

Andy

Oh somebody is tired. Rolling with laughter
Play nice boys and girls. Thumbs Up

Keep looking and you will find the right car. Have stuck with mine from new even though its had many problems, see other threads, but when it works it is the best place to be. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱
Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜
