I recently took my 2010 TDV8 to the local dealer, for them to take a look at a number of 'electronic issues', plus, what I thought may have been warped discs, as the steering wheel was starting to jiggle under braking from motorway speeds. (The car is still under LR warranty, as it's not yet 3 years old).
The electrical problems seem to have been sorted, but I had a call from the dealer to advise that my discs weren't warped, but the nearside one had worn unevenly, so everytime a thicker part of the disc passes through the calliper, it grabs slightly, which is what's causing the steering wheel wobble.
The dealer then told me that this isn't due to a problem with the disc, or abnormal wear, so that will be £450 to supply and fit new front discs and pads, thank-you...
I had the work done, as I wasn't prepared to risk continuing with the braking problems longer than necessary, and I told the dealer that I would be speaking with LR Customer Services, to obtain their advice on the matter.
When I called LR, they told me that all they can do is contact the dealer and ask for their opinion, so, there was no surprise when LR Customer Services eventually also told me exactly the same thing as the dealer.
I'd therefore be grateful for the opinion of anyone with some technical knowledge of braking systems, as I don't see how a disc brake can end up worn to varying thicknesses, unless there is a problem somewhere?
Cheers,
Rob
