This is a reasonably well done topic!

Tdv6 is far better! Mike

Neither is "far better" than the other. TDV8 has slightly better power/torque, TDV6 has better mileage figures. TDV8 has a nicer sound, TDV6 isn't exactly horrible in that regard.

Which is better depends on your taste.

Facelifted TDV8s aren't common, TDV6s are hugely common obviously.

I'd be happy with either. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

"Naught in life is as sure as death and taxes". £475 a year does make you gulp but its part and parcel of owning a Sport TDV8. Workhorse costs £135 per year and is same size. It's wrong.
If you are on a budget, don't buy a Sport, they need routine care and maintainence.
Having owned both I found V6 to be more reliable, but the V8 is so much more fun to drive. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱
Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜

As said above, if the cost of the tax is putting you off, you really shouldn't be thinking of changing, look at it in another perspective.... How much fun can you have for £475 a year? Do you have Sky Tv or Virgin Tv? Look how much they cost, bl00dy rip off, when you break it down itS only £9.14 a week. A lot of people will waste that on either fags boose or the lottery and get nil return for the pleasure of it unless you are really lucky Shocked Its not all that bad really, yes its more than most people are paying but then you arn't running around in a fiat panda. I'd go for the 3.0 L seen as the 3.6 variant has run out of replacement engines should yours go BANG!!!

Hi Chaps,

3 things:-

1. The tax disc is for 6 months.
2. If you look up Dave's car at the DVLA you get a CO2 of 0gm/km !!!! (hence the low tax).

3. I've just had a MY10 3.6 TDV8 for 18 months / 23,000 miles and swapped to a 3.0 SDV6 HSE Black - not the same as the TDV6 I know but I thought my 10p's worth would be useful.

After 3 weeks:-

a. the v6 goes like a dingbat.
b. the 8-speed is as smooth as silk up through the gears.
c. I'm averageing 5 mpg more from the Black over the same (regular) journeys.
d. the infotainment / SATNAV system is better (hi-line).
e. it feels a lot "tighter" on the road.
but.....
I miss the v8 burble.
I miss the gearstick - (somewhere to rest my left hand)
I miss the feeling of "raw grunt" when I put my foot down.
and worst of all........
Mrs Scrumps likes driving the HSE Black !!!! (I think the TDV8 scared her a bit !!!)

Would I swap back to the TDV8 - in a heartbeat - but it was 3 yrs old and I chose "new" over "extended warranty".

Do I regret changing....NO - we chose to swap as we like the current Sport and (having seen the leaked shots of the 2014 Sport) - we think we have made the right choice...for the next 3 years at least.

Think we V8 owners might call for a stewards enquirery Whistle but obviously this is a retro fit as the tax class is PLG which is an old vehicle class.
As mine is currently costing 0.00 road tax, I'm sort of happy Rolling with laughter
All be it due to being dead in a dealers yard Big Cry 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

Dave's in the very exclusive club of 2006 demo TDV8s Thumbs Up

I think the 8 speed box coupled with the SDV6 engine provides a very smooth drive and would not hesitate to get one in my next sport. RRS gone

Was the 8 speed available with the 3.0TDV6 or was it introduced with the SDV6? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
