They were fitted post 11MY i seem to recall, and they stopped the TDV8 at the 11MY so whilst you might find one or two - i think the answer is no TDV8's have them (in a sport Thumbs Up ) Mike

Maybe a regional thing then because my MY08 TDV8 doesn't have DPF. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

- because it just makes the particles smaller?
- because it increases the fuel burn by about 0.5lt/100Km?
- because if you do a bit of highway often, no problem, but if you do short drives/town for a while you get the message and you have to do an unnecessary drive to get rid of it(15Km highway)?
- because if you go for a longish off-road drive at slow speed you might get it and you might not have the road to do a "high" speed drive to get rid of the message and you might get into protection?
- because is an extra cost if it goes bad?

People say about the short drives and the off road bit...but have you actually met anyone who has had to? Ive not - even on a defender!!

As for increased fuel burn...its insignificantly small not to worry you

So i still cant see what the big deal is (bearing in mind this was a big conversation a while ago when it was put on the defenders) Mike

I do not know about the people you met, I'm talking about my personal experience. If one day we meet, you can buy me a beer and I'll tell you all about it Wink

Fuel burn, yes a 5% increase might be insignificant, or maybe not.

My experience, if I drive for one week only short trips, no highway, up down the hills around here, I get the message, happens 3-6 times a year. Then I have to get into the highway, drive in 3rd gear at about 100Kph till the message goes away(around 15 Km)(fastest way to get rid of it)

2 years ago, was on a off-road trip in the Piemonte mountains, after 1 1/2 day driving around at slow speed with 2 Defenders, up and down the mountains on gravel roads, I got the message. As there was no way I was able to drive fast/long enough to regenerate the DPF(due to the roads) I had to park the car to avoid going into protection and sit in the back of a Defender(shame, shame Wink ). Was able to regenerate the DPF only in the evening, driving back home on the highway.

Maybe it did not happen because you did not meet me, but this is my story. Wink '08 RRS TDV8

Are you using the correct oil in your engine?

For example Shell Helix Diesel Ultra AF-L 5W-30 Fully Synthetic Low SAPS Engine Oil

Any oil that is not low SAPS will give the problems mentioned.

Not sure which oil.

Is the LR dealer changing it when servicing the car, so I guess should be the correct one, but I can ask next time I'm there. '08 RRS TDV8

I had the DPF message come up on mine the other week due to a few weeks of a to b trips, soon got rid of it though. Wink But i can't see how that saves the planet though because the car made me make an unnecessary trip, unnecessary to me anyway. Confused Just to clear the DPF therefore polluting the planet, again.
