Sounds like an illegal restriction on trade on LR's part.

I suppose one could go and find all of the suppliers for the various parts and buy them direct but that's going to take longer than waiting for LR I guess. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Is the 3.6 not being used by anyone anymore? Wow. It's quite scary that a relatively new vehicle could be laid up for weeks waiting for a part to be reconditioned.

@simple1 - has the dealer removed your engine and got it ready for shipping to the recon guys? Or are they waiting for a replacement to become available before removing yours? Seems to me that if there is a shortage of ready-to-fit recon engines around then they may as well recon yours and give it back to you.

No they haven't removed if as they didn't want the car in two bits stuck on a ramp for weeks, which does make sense to me. I presume if a replacement engine cannot be found, that may have to change. I have no idea what the loan car is costing but at some point the hire charge will become excessive and it will be in LR best interests to fix the thing which ever way to get it back on the road. 2x TDV6. Ady, I was thinking something similar. Certainly, if I have a turbo fail then I think I'll be selling the vehicle as soon as the turbo is replaced... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

If this is the case with these engines, then for the engineers in the know, this could be a great buisness oportunity Wink There are a lot of 3.6 range rovers out there.

I know engines are rebuilt, but at what point does it become beyond economical repair? Taking mine as siezed solid, it will require rebore new pistons, rods and certainly crank ground. New camshafts and possibly heads. That's way beyond 6 grand in parts alone. Add vacuum pumps, cam followers, valves and rest of long shopping list and you get about 18 grand by my maths at retail prices. Hairy scarey Cool
Looks like I best SORN it for a while as due taxed Whistle 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

It's flippin mad, but as LR keep telling me, the V8 is so reliable that there are simply no core engines being retuned for "re-manufacture".
By the time my own is rebored it will be a 4.4 Thumbs Up 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

It used to be possible to see on parts system, what the turnover of each part was. System has now been modified so that parts dept can't see this info any longer. Simply says whether parts are in stock in either Solihull or Liverpool. My contact at Executive Office, in hisweekly late Friday email assures me he is on the case and chasing daily. Rebored to 4.4 will be fine so long as it also gives you a performance improvement - otherwise it'll just cost more to run for no benefit. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

As our cousins across the pond say, "there's no substitute for cubic capacity". Say it with Texan drawl and it sounds impressive.
Realistically it will get +10 pistons adding 80 cc to its 3.6 Thumbs Up only upside to remanufactured engine is the block won't be green so should be better than a new engine Whistle 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
