United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

Good news - hope it will all soon be back to good health.

But did you get to the root cause of catastrophic failure? What was the chain of events? We know what causes the TDV6 sudden engine blow-up and which years are affected and how to prevent it. Like all the other nervous TDV8 owners I'm wondering what action we can take to mitigate the risk of our engines suffering a similar fate to yours.

Cheers, 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Even bloody longer now. Went to test drive the car yesterday and there is a serious whistle everytime the turbos boost, so it's back in the workshop for boost leak/failed turbo. Dealer reckons they can change the turbo without removing the body again if needed. Laughing

Doesn't sound good - I really hope it is just a leaky hose but.....

What - if anything - did the installers of the new engine do to the intercooler? 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Its often a sad fact but often a reality that once these complex machines are disturbed in any major way and re-assembled in a normal workshop things are rarely as reliable as from the assembly line.

In the good-old-days when I ran a Ford dealership we tried to avoid major tear-downs because, even with excellent mechanics - sorry technicians-; the various systems never seemed to perform as original. Whether it is because the electronic connections have very slightly different resistances to when first built or the 'old' mechanicals don't quite just line up because of wear characteristics I couldn't say but its a lesson we learnt the expensive way.

On any of our race cars we always renewed the lot on a major overhaul.

My bet is that they've cracked the rear intercooler hose which is a metal pipe. Bodsys Brake Bible

Certainly sounded more like a boost leak than a faulty turbo. Also it was almost impossible to establish if it was left or right side so you could be right Bow down
Was slightly alarmed when tech said he had smoke tested and traces from left side but let me take it out anyway Thud Shocked but then the same fella put oily bits in my boot and soaked the dog mattress with oil right through to the load liner. Messy Whistle
Paddi, they removed and chemically cleaned the entire inlet and exhaust system, steam cleaned it and blew it all out with air. Thumbs Up 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

News update from the front.....
When I left dealers this afternoon, they were just starting to strip the car with the intention of removing body and changing both turbos again. Witnessed multiple smoke tests and everything is holding so can only be a faulty turbo but can't identify which one.
Have been promised a nice shiney new SDV6 for the weekend if mine isn't sorted. Thumbs Up 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

Looked a a few today as usually don't bother. The one I spied had two tone Suade seats and most options. But fell in live with 87 grands worth of full fat in showroom. Had everything I would ever want. Spent all afternoon trying work out what I can do to buy it Embarassed
They did have a 61 plate black Autobiography which was tasty and more in my price range but I didn't have licence with me to test drive. Big Cry
Lets just say am warming to idea of SDV6 as it has more grunt than standard V8. Thumbs Up 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
