Light Steering!!

Any advice greatly appreciated.

My 2005 RRS sems to have very light steering. It's the only RRS I've driven so difficult for me to compare, but I have driven a full fat and it seemed firmer. The issue is that if I'm on a dual carriageway or Motorway I'm constantly making tiny adjustments to the wheel to keep the car straight. Tyres are correctly inflated, and it doesn't pull to any particular direction. It's not a major problem but I'd be happier with a heavier feel and a tendancy to stay straight. Is this usual for the RRS or have I got a problem?

I would say you had a problem. Mine stays straight and feels firm and true. Maybe front suspension bushes? Im sure someone with more of an idea than me will be along to help in a bit Thumbs Up MY16 AUTOBIOGRAPHY Indus silver with some toys

Do sports have speed sensitve steering Question If so, then it might be a sensor that has failed.

A 4-wheel alignment check wouldn't be a bad thing. You could have an error that is symmetrical across the car so it tracks straight but is overly sensitive. Excess toe-out might cause this but then you'd also expect to see uneven tyre wear on the front shoulders. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I'd say check the bushes of the wishbones first and ARB bushes, then if they're all OK, go for a full 4 wheel alignment on a Hunters Geometary machine. You should als get a before and after printout so you know which bits are out. Thumbs Up Bodsys Brake Bible

Thanks for the input guys, some interesting stuff there. I'll take the car for the mot soon and get under the ramp for a good look, if nothing obvious then the alignment. I don't think it's tyre or wheel related as I've recently changed them and no different. Any further advances on whether the sport has speed sensitive steering?

Well I've since had proper 4-Wheel Alignment carried out and new ARB bushes fitted and the car does feel better, though the steering is still light. I recently drove a friends Disco 3 which felt considerably heavier and firmer???

Hi,

Does it happen on all roads, ours hates the truck ruts and over banding?

It does not do it on other, smoother roads.

Just a thought. Rules are for the obediance of fools and the guidence of wise men
