Fuel consumption with luggage box

Good afternoon Gents,
I am getting a sports box soon and I would like to find out if anyone with luggage box could comment on the change in fuel consumption please.
Thanks, Vadim A.

Vadim - do you have a tow bar Question

What about one of these ? Easier to access and will not really affect your mpg either I'd say. I don't have one, but they just seem like a good idea if you need the extra space.

Just a thought. Thumbs Up ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Hi BC,
Thank you for the idea, much appreciated! Pretty cool product.

1. Unfortunately I do not have a tow bar.
2. I'm not sure that the RRS registration plate would fit on this box.
3. I would really be worried about the safety pin, however safe it is.
4. The dog moved into the boot, so letting him out every 2 hours would be slightly inconvenient (not big deal deal though but still).
5. I am looking to put the skis into the sports box, which I cannot do with this product.
6. Parking space - RRS is an already long vehicle, adding this to the back would create even more difficulties with finding a space. On the other hand, sports box on the roof also causes some problems, since it adds to the height of RRS.

To sum up, I do think ill be getting one of these. Rolling Eyes

But thank you for your time and effort. Thumbs Up Vadim A.

So, apart from those 6 small points, it fits the bill perfectly Rolling with laughter Thumbs Up

Just i response though....

1. Unfortunately I do not have a tow bar. That pretty much kills this dead in the water then Laughing
2. I'm not sure that the RRS registration plate would fit on this box. Get a separate plate off ebay <£8 or talk to a friendly LR dealer Wink
3. I would really be worried about the safety pin, however safe it is. I use a tow bar bike rack to transport some expensive carbon bikes, really is solid as a rock Thumbs Up
4. The dog moved into the boot, so letting him out every 2 hours would be slightly inconvenient (not big deal deal though but still). The bike ones fold away meaning you can open the boot, not sure if this sort does though Question
5. I am looking to put the skis into the sports box, which I cannot do with this product. Fair point
6. Parking space - RRS is an already long vehicle, adding this to the back would create even more difficulties with finding a space. On the other hand, sports box on the roof also causes some problems, since it adds to the height of RRS. 6 of 1 1/2 dozen of the other Confused  ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

OK so we agree on point 1 and 5 then. No tow bar and and room for skis! Laughing Thank you once again Cool Vadim A.

i have never had a roof box, but have had the ski carrier on the roof of mine

I went up to Scotland and instead of the average mpg of 30-32mpg on motorways i got 24mpg, with 3 adults and 3 snowboards with bindings attached to it

I would expect a roof box to be a bit more streamline and not effect it as much, as the ski holder is about 4inch high and vertical and must act like a Censored airbreak Big Cry

That's a huge difference in fuel consumption, Nick. Indeed lets hope the sports box won't. Are that much of a difference. I'll have 4 people including the driver and a dog with me. Vadim A.

Laughing damm I knew something was wrong

It was the type below I used, as you can see they are flat face, add in a couple of snowboards with binding must increase drag too, ok for been in resort but think I long roof box will be purchased next time, or even better have them inside
