I currently have a RR Evoque Si4 Dynamic Lux that I'm considering replacing with an RRS.

I should clarify that I really do like the RRE, it is a great compromise between SUV 4x4 and 'mild' medium-sized hatch.

However...I have been offered a pretty good price for it and part of me would like a slightly larger Land Rover, albeit not FFRR or Disco 4 sized (had a Disco 4 previously).

I'm thinking a 2012 RRS SDV6 HSE but I'm concerned about depreciation when the new model comes out. This would mean my looking for a very low mileage used one rather than new but just how much will the impending new version affect the resale value in a year or two?

Also, I'm sure the RRE will be the better around corners but has anyone driven/ owned both and can comment upon their differences?

I'm taking this so far and if I'm still interested, will get myself down to my nearest Dealer for a drive to compare for myself.

As Ady says, I was delivered a MY12 Evoque last night due to my RRS developing a fault

I only drove it for 10 miles or so, but I have to say I thought it a very nice car and a nice drive. (I'm yet to look under the bonnet to see what engine or spec it is). Given the limited mileage I don't think I can comment that confidently on the RRE. I enjoyed driving it and it seemed quite spritely when pulling away and driving through the lanes where I live. Initial feeling was that it is quite small on the inside. This is where you'll notice a massive difference in an RRS, they feel a lot roomier.

The RRS also does feel more luxurious, I can't pinpoint what it is exactly given as a lot of the fittings are the same, but the RRS just feels 'grander'. Maybe it's because of the additional room on the inside.

Regarding you comment about corners, I actually think the RRS with 'Dynamic' activated, corners just as well, if not marginally better than the RRE. The RRE is obviously shorter and slightly more nimbler (better turning circle etc) but I'd recommend you test drive the RRS and stick it in 'dynamic' mode and see for yourself.

Regarding depreciation on the current model. That's only something you can decide upon.

I plan to take the RRE out for a spin tonight and tomorrow morning, so I'll update you with more detailed findings.  ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

One of the aspects of my RRE that I like is the dynamic mode and its cornering ability. In terms of a standing start, the RRS SDV6 appears to match the RRE SD4 but I would guess the RRS is quicker once rolling when overtaking with all that torque.

My Si4 is a joy in Sport and Dynamic mode. Interesting that you reckon in first impressions that the RRS is just as good - I'd be happy with close.

My RRE will depreciate too no doubt but not nearly as much I'm guessing.

I did exactly what you are considering. I swapped my D4 for a SD4 RRE Dynamic with lux pack and other extras. It cost over£45k, but looked great in Firenze Red and black panoramic roof. The RRE was a fantastic vehicle, but just did not feel like a grown up Range Rover.
We had our Evoque for 4 months and a local dealer had a brand new RRS HSE in Firenze red with some extras in the showroom. As soon as I got inside it, I felt that it was a real RR and made the Evoque seem very small.
I negotiated hard with the dealer and got a great deal and have not regretted it. I love the engine and it feels so much more luxurious and the fuel ecomomy is not that different to the Evoque. I find the handling of the RRS superior to the Evoque and it sticks to the road in the corners, get a test drive, I am sure you will love it.
My advice would be to go for the RRS, now that there are lots of Evoques on the second hand market, the prices are softening.

I (obviously!) have an RRS, whilst my business partner has just taken delivery of an evoque, when we first took the evoque out for a test drive last year, if felt as compliant and comfy as my RRS, but now haven driven ours for a bit ,it is quite crashy on our poor potholed roads. The steering feels too light with it being electronic instead of the hydraulic in mine , which feels planted all the way round tight corners.


I would though if I were you either keep the evoque or get a 2010/11 RRS , anything younger and you will lose more than you will lose on the evoque in the next 2 or so years till the next gen rrs comes out

I need to drive one to see but also agree getting a newer one will mean a large hit come trade-in time. I'm thinking 2010/11 HSE Supercharged now. I only do around 6k - 7k miles a year so the V8 monster might be worth getting - what are the running costs of such a beast in terms of servicing?

Update: Found a 2012 RRS SDV6 HSE with some nice options and put down a deposit and agreed a deal. Got until Monday to make up my mind and will be test driving on Sunday.

I currently own a 2006 model RRS HSE and was seriously thinking about the RRE. Went to my local dealers and test drove the RRE Prestige. First impressions were great, nice looking car, full sunroof, black with sport wheels. Everything was looking good. Sat in the drivers seat and again all looking good.... Except that I found the space smaller (obviously) and to be honest a bit more cramped. Driving it was good, handled the road went round corners well and when you floored it, it picked up nicely apart from a little lag....
The wife and 2 kids in the back commented about the harder ride and in the middle seat was like sitting on a bench seat. She was not impressed with the quality of ride compared to the RRS. The rear window as we all know is like looking out of a periscope but this is a characteristic of the car and I suppose you would get used to it.

The said car was £48,000 with all the bits on.

Returned back to the dealer and he was then asking for a deposit etc etc.

Then as I looked around the corner of the showroom, there was the new RRS HSE MY2013. Well, we test drove that and to be honest for the extra £7,000 we decided to buy a Firenze Red with side steps and privacy glass.

IMHO... Go for the RRS as you get a better car a better ride, a bigger car and more value for money.

I agree on the price of the RRE they are way way over priced, the bubble will burst very soon, 3 of my pals got them and 3 of them have all sold them and moved up to the RRS, Not what they had hoped they were and too small for what they wanted,

Soooo, had a good look at the MY13 SDV6 HSE and really liked it. Test drive was good and the RRS is:

1. More spacious but still not huge which suits me.
2. More luxurious - not hugely, but a little more so than my RRE Dynamic. Possible the same as a RRE Prestige?
3. More comfortable to drive in and soaked up bumps in the road better.
4. Not as quick around corners but close enough for me - far more composed than my Disco 4 was.
5. The Satnav screen is a higher resolution than my pixellated MY12 Evoque one.
6. The electrically closing boot closes with a pleasing 'thunk', a solid close whereas the RRE does so with a slight 'click'. This is typical of everything - the RRS seems more solid. Weighs a ton more so not surprised but it is nicer.

With the new RRS model only a year away, I've decided not to get a new car. I have a good offer on my RRE and, basically, I couldn't have rented it for the depreciation forfeiture on the P/X over the last 11 months so I'm happy with that.

I've got a deposit on a MY12 SDV6 HSE with Sunroof, Adaptive Cruise, Premium Ice, Dual View, Privacy glass and Heated steering wheel. My RRE has done 5018 miles and the 'new to me' RRS has less.

We own both cars, V6 HSE3.0 and RRE Prestige SD4. I can honestly say after 6 mo bnths ownership of both, that whilst my wife loves her car, she's welcome to it. Uncomfortable seats, imo, very noisy, road noise, for a £43k car and nowhere near as comfortable.

the plus points for the RRE would be an outstanding ride for such a vehicle, with the Dynamic suspension upgrade, along with a smart looking interior and exterior. i'm not part of the 'it will age quickly' brigade as I believe it is one of the freshest designs around. I do however belive that the car is overpriced and that the residules will plummet over the next 12-18 months.
