Bonnet Open - How To Fix

I've been getting intermittent "Bonnet Open" coming up after I open/close the bonnet for whatever reason. Normally I just stick my fingers under the switch an wiggle and that temporarily fixes it but today that didn't work.

Reason it generally fails is that grunge/mud/muck get into the switch housing unit and the that stops the micro-switch from having enough travel to work.

Its a really simple fix and I would say easier/safer than short-circuiting the switch as some have done.

Tools - screwdriver & WD40

1 use the screwdriver to push back the two retaining clips at the front of the bonnet catch that hold the switch unit in place

2 unplug the wire from the back of the switch

(do it this way in case you drop the switch!)

3 clean thoroughly the mirco-switch and housing unit. Ensure the 2 holes at the bottom of the housing unit are not blocked as this will help muck/water escape

4 reassemble!

If you still have issues afterwards, you can bend the metal contact slightly outwards to ensure a better push.

I had this happen a few times and eventually just bought a replacement for approx £20.00. Just remember to mark where the existing one is located - getting it wrong can be a pain because the lid won't close properly.... '10 RRS 5.0 SC
