ChrisP - nobody can put robust accurate contra figures to you because only you have your data and you are obviously happy. The true figures will be unique to your situation and may well support your decision.

I've had to train many qualified accountants and happily my clients pay me very well and so there is no point in us trading my 25 years in business cost analysis and views on the expertise of your accountant who has your confidence so that's fine.

The different opinions on this post just demonstrate how 'bar room' simple comments can lead anyone up the proverbial garden path.

All I can say is that, in general, using your own capital rather than paying to use someones else's will, under current tax legislation, be the most prudent way to buy a depreciating asset costing over £25k. unless the 'car' is stickered as a promo. and marketing tool or there is a variation in the purchase and operating costs resulting from volume discounts or there are corporate overriding issues profit centre techniques of capital transfers and other balance sheet pressures.

ok, I'm not going to pretend I understand everything posted here, but then I did ask Laughing

Without starting another thread about running costs, what do you think of my estimates from earlier,

If I was to purchase a 2010 model I would be looking at what?
24000 miles in 2 years so 1 set of tyres?
RFL £460 per year?
2 Services?
An MOT
so say £36k for the car, plus £920 for RFL, £1k for servicing and MOT work? £600 for tyres? Extended warranty?
So whats that? £39,000? And resale value in 2 years would be £22k?(or less if the 1k per month depreciation figure from earlier is used) So a cost of £17k for 2 years.
So my 2010 car would be worth £22,000 in 2014,

With all due respects as I said earlier I'm no expert but my accountant is and he is saving us a fortune when the bigger picture is taken into account.
As yet nobody has put up any contra figures showing that either paying cash or straight finance is any cheaper when ever single factor including income tax liability is considered.

be careful of your accountant. That's how my £300,000 guy got caught out. ============

^^^ VERY valid point. I often get asked for 'advice' regarding situations on personal tax a lot. Even though I'm fully aware of most 'strategy's' etc I, I never give advice, it's just too risky.

I've seen it with a friend, who gave another mate some 'advice'. Ended up costing his mate best part of £20k. They now don't speak... Neutral ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

I'm now just waiting for my accountant to come back with some info.

It comes down to a simple question of,

If i purhase through CH, how much will it really cost when all the tax and VAT implications into account?

Once I have that info I can then compare to the cost of 2 years ownership of a 2010 model.

For what its worth I've posted an example set of calculation under a new topic. It is of course generalised to keep the interest computations simple and relevant.
