Old bed springs

Here's the solution to this problem from Holland. Idea I had this problem on my 10 months old SC as well and it was fixed by my dealer. It seems that the lubricant that was used by the factory on the active anti roll bar system can flush away. That's the reason why only the SC suffers from this problem. They said it was a very common problem with the first production series and a new lubricant (that won't flush away) was put in. The complete suspension had to come off though so it took them a full day. Evil or Very Mad All the work was carried out under guarantee. Very Happy

Popped into my local dealer near work oday who I have never used, Hartwell Northampton. I spoke to the Service Manager Dale Barker. Nice chap, looks like he used to work on Landrovers himself.

I described my problem and before I could finish he was straight in with, "Worse when it's hot isn't it?"

He seems to know his stuff, and its the front suspension arm bushes. Apparently theere was an inferior set made which when they get hot, they stick to the arms and then creak loudly as they get moved about. Some replacement ones have teflon in them and solve the issue. The job takes about 4 hours in total.

So, he's ordered some for me and will book me in when they have them.

A refreshing Can-Do attitude as opposed to the "we can't hear the noise" attitude. Oddly enough, Hartwells said "You can't hear it if you only take it for a short drive because you need to warm the car up thoroughly first, at least 2 junctions up the motorway" L319 D4 HSE

Good to hear at least some dealer staff know what they're talking about.

The car went into Hartwell yesterday for the replacement front suspension bushes. They arrived promptly at my office and an elderly gentleman took it away. (Less chance of hooligan driving style I suppose)

I rang them at 5pm to check on it, to be fair they had JUST finished it, and it was back 15 minutes later. Inside was a complimentary bottle of Hartwell Landrover branded spring water and the paper Landrover floor mat covers.

I checked how many miles in total it had done, 21.4. I reckon therefore that 10 of those were test drive which is fair as the bushes need a good run to warm them up enough to check if they are creaking still.

The creaking is gone of course and the car seems a little firmer through the corners too.

Well done Hartwell. No fuss or drama. L319 D4 HSE

What a good idea to leave spring water - cheap but shows you care. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
