So how do you tell the engine management system that the cat has gone?

Since spring of this year, if the vehicle has a cat fitted as standard (and they all do these days) and it is not present at the test then it's a straight fail.

No its not. It only has to be present on a vehicle which is subject to a full CAT test. Currently this is PETROL CARS ONLY. If you have a diesel, you DO NOT need a cat to pass an MOT, as they are only subject to a smoke test To the OP, get it bought and fitted. Will release a few extra HP, will give you a big more low down torque, and the turbo spools up quicker. Definately a noticeable difference, and one of the cheaper mods available |

Yes however exhaust systems are checked for 'completeness' regardless of engine type. Missing CATs are a fail therefore I presume.

I appear to have broken the links. Will update this evening. You DO NOT need a cat for an MOT... |

Taken from here: http://www.306oc.co....hread-2831.html
And this was the reply, directly from VOSA...
And also, copied from the MOT testers manual...
Its is only petrol cars that are subject to a full cat test, diesels are only a smoke test... I hope this clear up any confusion |
