decat pipe mod

Anyone ever fitted decat pipe to there sport... i have 2005 model was looking at this.... just wondered if easy straight swap over fit etc.... current system is fully standard
and is the below 1 any good

So how do you tell the engine management system that the cat has gone?

shouldnt fault anything i dont think

and mot in england dont check emissons as such like that no more c ebb

Since spring of this year, if the vehicle has a cat fitted as standard (and they all do these days) and it is not present at the test then it's a straight fail.

No its not. It only has to be present on a vehicle which is subject to a full CAT test. Currently this is PETROL CARS ONLY.

If you have a diesel, you DO NOT need a cat to pass an MOT, as they are only subject to a smoke test

To the OP, get it bought and fitted. Will release a few extra HP, will give you a big more low down torque, and the turbo spools up quicker. Definately a noticeable difference, and one of the cheaper mods available

Dmike is correct, diesel only get a smoke test no emissions. If you took some fog and put it in a jar, would it be missed.

Yes however exhaust systems are checked for 'completeness' regardless of engine type. Missing CATs are a fail therefore I presume.

This is from the Directgov. website regards MOTs:

"Exhaust system

Secure. Complete. Catalyst missing where one was fitted as standard. Without serious leaks and is not too noisy."

This is part of the visual inspection not emissions/ smoke test. As such I presume a missing CAT on a diesel motor will be a fail.

The check for a CAT only applies to petrol engined vehicles which qualify
for a full CAT test. There will be an update to the IM in Spring which will
clarify this.

The fitment of a catalytic converter to petrol engine vehicles is mandatory
for vehicles of the specified age and type e.g. passenger car, goods etc.
The MOT Inspection Manual can therefore specify exactly what petrol engine
vehicles must have a catalyst fitted.

I hope this information has assisted you with your enquiry, but if you have

Its is only petrol cars that are subject to a full cat test, diesels are only a smoke test...

MIke,

I found the same so stand corrected Thumbs Up But have to say it's very confusing... And on top of the MOT you have the C&U which aren't back to back...

From a similar site it seems that in theory it's now possible to pass an MOT but fail on C&U, or vice versa Confused So joe public who modifies their car is Censored

This is where I prefer the German TUV system, if you modify your car in certain areas you have to go to the TUV for approval and it is wrtten into the cars papers. I had a Defender when living in Germany and due to all the modifications I required a 2nd sheet to list changes, plus all valid tyre and wheel combos. Everytime the POlice stopped me I gave them the document they looked at it and didn't bother checking because all required modifications where listed and approved...

Yup, same as aftermarket HID kits...

You can pass an MOT with them, as they light up the right colour, and the beam pattern is correct, but you can be stopped by the police, as they are not approved for use in non-projector type headlamps...

As we are discussing the legalities of a decat for MOT purposes, it will be fine. And I can't imagine traffic police will be too worried about a decat, especially if its hidden behind a plastic undertray Thumbs Up
