Does EGR blanking cause Turbo problems or warning lights?

Hi can anyone confirm what I am being told by the garage I use to sort my RRS.

Basically I am being told that if I blank off the EGR valves using one of the kits you can buy that I am going to end up with warning lights/messages and potentially cause damage to the turbo.

Thanks in advance 2009 3.6 TDV8 HST

You won't get any messages or warning lights on a pre '07MY ie. (EU 111 engine), and I have never heard of blanking the EGR valves causing turbo problems on these engines. Wink RRS TDV8 Buck Blue (no, not now in my dreams). ..........D3 TDclankety clankV6 ............BMW 318i

I think it is DIY able, if you buy the kit from Pete Bell at BAS (Bell Auto's ),instructions are provided. It is a case of removing the side pipes that run from the top of the valves to the inlet plenum ( 1 pipe each side) and fitting blanking plates (2 each side) the top blanks have a couple of 'o' rings on them also, Then you should also remove the butterfly in the inlet plenum. About an hours work max I reckon. (changing one EGR valve took me 3 1/2 hrs Laughing ). RRS TDV8 Buck Blue (no, not now in my dreams). ..........D3 TDclankety clankV6 ............BMW 318i

Just the one kit (4 blanks) will do it. For that price though I would definately buy from BAS (site sponsor on Disco3.co.uk and on here also), rather than an unknown supplier. Removal of the butterfly spindle is the bit you really need proper instructions for. Thumbs Up RRS TDV8 Buck Blue (no, not now in my dreams). ..........D3 TDclankety clankV6 ............BMW 318i
