Which Car Survey 2012

Just got August 2012 edition of Which magazine and it includes their Best & Worst Cars of 2012...

It seems Land Rover finish 2nd bottom for reliability....

The RR Sport had more faults for 0-3 year old cars than any other car with ECU and Electronic Parking Brake responsible for most failures and 13% of owners breaking down in the past year... Shocked

I thought that the quality and reliability had improved since the TATA takeover....

How does it compare to the FF or does it get a rating?

Still wavering. Smile

No individual rating for FFRR, must have been too few members reporting....

Thanks P. Smile

I think that much as the handling attracts me on the Sport, the reliability question is going to be the decider. I'm a long tow away from an LR dealer (and they don;t have much of a rep either. Sad)

Land Rover are actually bottom Shocked

http://www.which.co.uk/cars/survey/car-rel...nd-losers/

Quote:
The losers
The owners of the Jaguar Land Rover Group may have reported a 34% rise in profits this year, but there’s been no similar improvement in reliability, according to the people in our survey who have bought their cars.

With a fairly appalling score of just 63% for its 4-8-year-old cars, Land Rover sits at the bottom of the reliability table for yet another year.

The current Range Rover Sport and Land Rover Discovery 4 are among the brand’s worst offenders.

And it’s even more difficult reading for Discovery 3 owners. The big off-roader has been affected by a raft of pretty serious faults, including suspension, gearbox and exhaust system troubles, costing owners a whopping £399 a year in average repair bills.

It's the reason I'm thinking about keeping my Cayenne until the new Porsche Macan is launched in 2013...

I had been looking at Evoque's or FFRR but after reading the forums for the last few months, think I'll wait... Sad

It's also the reason my mate recently sold his TDV8 with HST kit but as he's bought an RS6 as a replacement, I think he may have jumped from the frying pan into the fire... Laughing

The problem with forums is more people take the time to post their grievances than praise IMHO Whistle

They are useful as a guide though Thumbs Up Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Orkney Grey

The RRS is definitely not a car for those who like Honda levels of reliability.

Indeed, unless they can bring in a some properly frugal engines to get the running and taxation costs down, I worry about how long LR will continue in the long term.

Perhaps they need to build them somewhere other than the UK - maybe the issue is to do with the people who screw the things together or maybe it's just that they've designed a complicated device and then tried to engineer it down to a price that gives a decent profit. Either way, they do have the feel of a typical British car of yesteryear in so many ways.

When you have Hyundai offering a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty, it makes you wonder what they're doing properly that LR aren't. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

all this talk about "in the UK" "out of the UK" blah blah, embarrassing. Like those old cronies who complain about "French cars".
