3.6 TDV8 Just stopped

Hi

I have a 2007 3.6 tdv8 89000miles with an upsolute remap. (have done 3000miles since remap serviced at 87k) Yesterday the car just stopped on me and now just turns over as if its out of fuel. It has 3/4 of a tank and has fuel at the blead nipple. No faults on the dash and after borrowing a friends bearmach hawkeye there are no stored faults.

Has anyone had this happen to them or able to shed some light.

Many thanks

OH

Know this from my father's old FFRR MY02, where similar issue was caused by a faulty fuel pump between the fuel tanks - not sure if same set-up is on the RRS.

Tried to start again today now coming up with a fault code of p1623. Does anyone know what this actually means apart from ECM security code.

Stopped dead

I have just got mine back having had two turbos fitted. It stopped dead under hard acceleration, one stuck solid the other full of oil.
I suspected this was a one off, clearly not. Shame the body has to come off to sort them....

Exactly the same with mine. Near side turbo seized and the off side full of oil. Iv gone for a gamble with mine though and only changed the one turbo. Done 400miles so far and not missed a beat.

Just had the same happen to mine, pulled out of garage after filling (yes with Diesel) got 100m up the road power went and came to stop in the road, Restarted but only a very lumpy tick over still no power and a load of smoke.

Been told turbo/s have gone and body off required, RR also advise extreme caution in just replacing them due to the possibility of broken blades working their way into the engine which could further result in total engine failure not long after getting it back

Would like to hook up with anyone who has had same problem to see how that ended for them as still rolling from it happening

Hi Sterling69

When mine went I didn't know what was wrong so took it to James French in Oxford. If iv ever got an out of the ordinary problem they are the men to find the fault.

Steve in service is the man to talk to.

When i took mine to them they advise that the n/s turbo had gone. It is possible to change a turbo without taking the body off but not very easy. I told them to take the body off so we could check the other turbo aswell. Doing this we found it was full of oil. Next option 2 new turbos or drain the one and replace the seized one.

I decided to run the risk and save £1000 by only changing one, since draining the one turbo and replacing the seized one I have done 7000 miles with it remapped and had no issues.

Is it in warranty??

Hi Sampson321

In Bucks myself & know of James French but never been there, i had it recovered to Mark Smiths in Bicester but they were wary of doing anything as the RR adviced the possibility of broken turbo blades in the engine causing further problems later on which would come back on them.

Anyway long story short it is still in dealers warranty and is at present winging its way back to Broadfields Range Rover in Essex to be sorted, However the words of Possible future issues still play on the mind which may occur after warranty runs outs leaving a new engine replacement at my expense ...

You say no issues with yours after replacement did you see the old turbo when they got replaced & were the blades broken at all or held up in one piece when they failed.
