Wear?

In the massive's opinion, do the front or the rear tyres wear faster? Tracking/alignment notwithstanding of course...

The Conti shoulder wear is a feature of the tyre - the shoulder blocks aren't as deep (4mm instead of 8mm I think) as the rest so the tread looks more worn than it is. This is the official line from LR/Conti. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Same, always fronts that need to be replaced long before rears. I had contis for years and did @ 5 k miles before they were "illegal" on edges according to local traffic plod. Scorpions last 15-20k longer. Last set did 25k and wore evenly. Was a bit of a surprise when I went to get them replaced and found previous tyre bloke had fitted 295 and not 275. Mind you the 295 were three hundred quid cheaper than set of 275. Work that out???

Interesting. Unless you were showing cord on the shoulders or the outer worn band extended in to the central 75% band of the tyre then it sounds like plod might have been talking rubbish. There is no requirement for tread blocks on the shoulders - the shoulder can be slick so long as the central 75% of the tread is 1.6mm deep. For a 275 wide tyre, that means you can have a smooth shoulder that extends in from the edge by 34mm on each side.

I'd have been tempted to argue the toss but that's likely to have them check the car over for an hour in order to find things that are dodgy. Probably invites a breath test too for good measure.

As for price variations, I guess it comes down to popularity; if the tyre size is popular and thus they make lots of them then the price is probably going to be lower. Alternatively the tyre guy had a set of tyres he wanted get rid of so discounted them. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Long story short, the traffic plod was peak down over eyes, so knew it was going to be poo. Had claimed I was doing and average of 95 for 13 miles he followed me on A303. Problem being I clocked him in plain Skoda as I passed him three miles before he stopped me and car was set and sat at 80 until I hit brake pedal to pull in when blues came on.
He gave the car a free MOT at michaeldiver services and was doing me regardless. In end he dropped the state of the Tyres in favour of 3 points and £60 for speeding. The Tyres had 5 mm on more than 2/3 of tyre but the speeding was non arguable Big Cry 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱
Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜

Ah sounds like he was just making an excuse to waste your time before giving you the ticket. Sort "you're in a hurry so I'll mess you about just because I can".

Probably works for the Met now with that sort of attitude... Rolling with laughter 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
