I used Accident Exchange a few years ago when a neighbour reversed her Volvo estate into my parked up Elise right in from of my eyes. AE were recommended by the bodyshop I used, and they gave me a 3 series beemer as a replacement for a couple of weeks. Their service was very good, managing all discussions with my neighbours insurance company, so took the hassle out of it.

I sent the car back after 2 days, realising quite how much it would cost and the general feeling that this sort of 'service' was pushing up everyone's premiums. the total bill would have been doubled if I had kept the car and it just didn't make sense. I used my bike and the bus instead whilst my car was being fixed.

As for you having a Porsche Cayenne, to be honest I think that is a joke and must be costing an absolute fortune. Nothing is ever free, and it is no wonder premiums are escalating at such a rate - this is one of the reasons. I realise that you have done nothing wrong and shouldn't necessarily be penalised for some eejit who has crashed into you, but I do question whether the replacement car really needs to be something quite so expensive. Ok, a little Daihatsu or Daewoo may not be suitable, but I'm sure you could manage with a Ford/Peugeot/VW for a week or two, which would be a quarter of the cost.

So, AE do provide very good service, but at an enormous cost which we all end up paying for in the end......

First time poster but I have come on here to warn you about Accident Exchange. I used them a few years ago with a BMW and yes, they provided like for like, but the hire cost was circa £150 A DAY for a 1 series. The battle with the insurance companies went on and we had the car for over a month. The hire charges were then disputed and if you do not cooperate with Accident Exchange and say you are willing to go to court if required, you are personally liable for the hire charges. The third party insurer eventually settled out of court but it got very close that I would have had to stand in front of a judge and justify why the insurer provided car would not have been good enough.

NB: Accident Exchange was personally recommended by a BMW dealer but I believe they have now stopped doing so!

Ah yes, I do remember now something about being liable for the charges should a dispute find that the replacement car not be deemed appropriate, or worse, that you weren't entitled to one.

^^^ On that, I was told that a policy was taken out by AE that meant if the charges we refused or disputed by the other party, they would claim against it and I would have no liability to settle anything.
Perhaps they have changed the way they work

2 years ago, while in my merc e320, i was hit from behind, i was offered a 1 litre corsa from the insurance company that i turned down as i do a lot of motorway miles, i was then offered a mercedes c180, which i accepted, when i read the final report, the bill for that car was £175 per day, somebody is taking the as Enterprise rent a merc c180 for £90 a day, and guess which company came and collected the hired Merc............yup, enterprise 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater )))

Yes, it concerned me when they dropped the Cayeene Turbo off to me and I had them put it in writing that I would not be liable for any hire car charges regardless of the outcome of my claim.

The other driver has accepted full liability, and my thoughts are "Tough " if your insurance company are being hammered because you drove like a !

I went down a had a look at my poorly RRS this afternoon. My wife was in tears.....

Accident Exchange have told me that they are having trouble finding a RRS so I have asked for a Disco or FFRR.

I worked out today that I'm getting around 18mpg

We'll all be in tears if these sorts of companies keep doing this. Insurance premiums will go up for all of us as a result of such expensive loan cars . It's a just a version of the "claim for whiplash" lawyers that most of us despise  2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Correct, you are not liable for any hire charges. However, if you fail to cooperate with AE's claiming back of the hire charges, even years down the line of disputes, you WILL have to pay them in full.

I paid a great deal of money for my car, earned from working in some of the places on earth. I didn't cause the accident so I see nothing wrong with being provided a like for like car.

Its not "people like me" pushing up premiums its cnuts like the driver who hit me doing it!

Lets hope that none of the people who have posted on here get hit by a white van idiot and have to claim. So far the repair bill is up tp £6.5K and they haven't even started taking off any panels yet. If it wasn't for Accident Exchange taking over my claim i would have been in a Citreon C3 and would have been held 50% responsible for the accident.

I hope that I have made my position cystal clear?

Totally agree. When mine was hit I was sat in the office so the accident was nothing to do with me.
That in mind why should I put up with a vauxhall corsa for two weeks just because some idiot put my sport out of action.

Until the insurance companies 'man up' and charge the people responsible for the reckless 'accidents' then we all suffer.
Personally, if you drive like and cause an accident then you should be penalised for that. But its easy, people just shop around and go elsewhere meaning that the never really suffer for the accidents they cause, so it ends up costing us all  ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i
