HEAD LIGHT adjustment of Europeon travel?!?

I have a 2006 Sport TV6 HSE. I live in France (the car is left hand drive purchased in France), in the hand book there is a section on how to change the head lamps for driving in the UK - I cannot find any adjustment 'lever' and the Land Rover Garage tell me "it is not necessary to make any adjustment". I am suspious of any advice they give me as frankly they don't know much about the workings of the car - service and a maintaince and that's about it!! Can anyone throw any light on the subject. Andrew Kennedy

1. Open the bonnet
2. Remove the grille between the headlights. Simply unclips along the top and then pull off. Might need a good tug. Be careful not to scratch the top of the bumper.
3. Make a loop with a piece of string. Use the loop to pull up on the two sliding catches that hold the headlight in place. This can take a bit of force! Carefully align the holes in the clips with the studs and then carefully pull the headlight forwards. Don't try to lever the clips up with a screw driver as you can break the plastic of the headlight unit! (I know because I've managed to just that. Not enough to do any real damage or need anything replacing but annoying all the same)
4. Disconnect the electrical connector block from the headlight
5. Open the larger of the plastic covers on the rear of the headlight unit. You should see a lever inside immediately next to the bulb/xenon unit. Move this fully in the opposite direction to which it is currently pointed to the adjust the beam. This does not require much force so if it won't move, don't force it!
6. Replace the rear cover, reconnect the electrics, slot the headlamp back in and push the retaining clips down to lock the unit in place.
7. Repeat 3-6 for the other headlight unit
8. Replace the central grille (being careful of the paintwork again)

Be careful with the headlight units as they're quite bulky. Place the unit on the driver's seat (with a cloth to protect the seat if required) when doing the adjustment.

Hope this helps Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Wow! If only I had posted the same question to get such a detailed reply from RRSTDV8 before working it out myself! Would have saved me a lot of time. I knew all the steps but the handbook makes it sound so easy. I was worried about using too much force fearing I would break something. I would like to share my experience too.

It does require a lot of force especially if the grille hasn't been taken off for a long time and I can imagine damaging the paintwork could be quite easy.

The catches were too tight and I was also tempted to use a screwdriver to lever them up but refrained due to the reason RRSTDV8 described. Ended up using pliers to grip the top of the clip and pulled vertically. Worked for me. Was still unable to move the headlamp unit out because I had pulled the catches all the way up (this is what I thought the handbook suggested). You have to look closely and stop pulling when the holes align with the studs.

The lever is indeed very flimsy (and feels cheap quality tbh at least in my 2009 bi-xenons) so be very careful.

Just a couple of questions......

Thanks for yours..all is now clear! A couple of questions you might be able to help on.......The ref: on my lights reads XBC5017932N - would these be Xenon lights?? My car was made to European specs. (left hand drive). I have the hand book Manual in English and French and in both books it shows the default light adjustment in the UP position which is odd if the same light fitting is used for all vechiels?? Andrew Kennedy

Hello Andrew
Firstly, do you have adaptive lights or standard? If they are adaptive you will see them dance when you switch them on.
Secondly, your lights need changing for which ever side of the road you are on, due to the height of the headlamps, Dazzels others, only some sports cars with very low headlamps do not need adjusting (when the light is within the foglight zone)
If you have adaptive headlamps, just remove the rear cover und use a torch to locate the adjuster leavers, they can be very hard to locate the first time without a torch.
Ive just got back from france so had to change my own.
Thumbs Up

If you take off the round cover on the back of the headlight (without removing it), it is just possible without stripping the front of the car. The little lever sits to the right of the connector on the back of the lamp (to the right as you are sitting in the car looking forward), once you have Identified it with a torch, its really easy to do, without looking, once you get to the ferry. When I'm queuing up waiting to get on ferry/train, pop the bonnet and it is done in less than a minute, I go France at least once a month!!!
all the best Martin..

Sorry for the thread resurrection but I just cant figure this out

My car has adaptive lights
On a previous BMW it was easy, the adjuster was exactly where Id expect it but even RingTFM and following posts on here has me defeated with the RRS Censored

OK so Id rather not remove the whole grille and sealed unit - but it looks as if this should be OK

I have taken off the small round cover from the unit and looked inside
There is the squarish metal thing right below it but I just cant see the adjuster lever or feel it if I stick my fingers in and poke around fnarr fnarr

Any more tips gladly received.....

The levers are both a bit of a fiddle especially the RHS.

I made a 15mm hole in the panel directly above the lever on the RHS light so I can access the lever with a small hook I made from rigid plastic (not metal because of the electrics!). The hole is blanked by a rubber grommet and looks original.

I can now switch the direction of the beams, for left or right, in a few minutes after coming off the ferry and keep my hands clean.
