Off Road Endurance - Discuss | |
A colleague from w.. w.. (worked hard to prevent stating it .. DOH !!!) as just come back from a 3 week trip across the North of Australia, between Port Douglas and Darwin. He hired a Toyota Landcruiser (which had after market shocks to make it more robust, long range tanks and many other survivor based extra's), They went through a few tracks (sorry roads) that had been closed to traffic.
His observation was, and he himselfs drives a V8 Disco Series 1 back in Sydney (modified with Long range tanks, and other goodies and is an avid LR fan), the modern Landie, in particular the RRS and D3 would find it hard to survive in such conditions (terrain, dust and water conditions), due to the reliability on electronics. The main thrust being, the vehicle is not bush repairable, like most (such as the defender, D1 and 2).
I know the G4 Challenge is on, but with back up, its hardly the same being stuck several hundred K's in the middle of nowhere hoping Landrover assist may turn up before you run out of water, or more importantly beer
Whats the general opinion (or disagreement), would you trust your modern landie to take you across area's without a full pit crew in a truck following ? Another Pommie Bar Steward down under
