Hi people - realise this is an old thread now but to avoid yet another one about tyres I'll post here.... I've just bought a 2006 Supercharged and it has two different makes of tyre, Conti's and Pirelli.... worse than that they are 265 / 45 / R20's which from what ive learned so far are the wrong size... i bought from a non approved dealer so not getting anywhere with them. Im interested to hear comments on using this size of tyre ... im expecting the worst Thanks

275 40 20 is the correct size. Great sport the supercharge  MY11 Autobiography supercharged. Santorini Black. Monaco interior. Rear screens. Privacy.

As far as the size goes 265 45 20 lies between the factory 275 40 20 and the larger 275 45 20 which is commonly used on RRS.

The 265 45 20 is 2.4 percent larger diameter than the factory fit tyre so should not affect your speedo too much. I have the 275 45 20 (3.7 % larger than stock) and speedo is probably just about right now and definitely more accurate than with the 275 40 20.

The higher sidewall tyre improves ride comfort as I have found out in the switch to General GT 275 45 20 from the Contis in 275 40 20.

Provided the load rating of the tyres are acceptable, the tyres should be OK for your RRS but I have read comments from several members that it is best if tyres are same tread pattern (and depth).

Thanks guys so maybe my biggest issue is having the Pirellis on.... one has 7mm tread and the other is 4mm... will wait to see if there are any other views on the size but doesn't seem too much of an issue then.

The problem with having tyres of widely varying tread depth is that it can upset the DSC - it sees different wheel speeds and thinks there is a problem. This can lead to power loss and brake activation as the system tries to correct the "problem".

Having different sizes front to back can lead to the centre diff getting damaged as the front and rear axles are at different speeds. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Considering the tyres (and brakes) are what keep your expensive investment safely on the road, it is best not to be too thrifty in those departments.

Lots of good tyres to be had in RRS sizes for around 130 to 150 a corner from the likes of Toyo, General, Cooper, Hankook etc

Another thing to factor in the 'economy' of budget tyres is that tyres like General AT are reportedly having life spans in the range of 30,000 + miles (provided alignment /tracking is in order) which is no mean feat on a heavy powerful car like the RRS. After two weeks of reading old bloggs, comments and ratings ...... Hankooks seem to be head and shoulders above the rest for recommendations. I'm about to order a set for my S/C and thought I'd see if there are any more opinions before I do? appreciate your views guys.....

Can I suggest General Grabber UHP's? (There is a new version out now, the GT, but believe UHP's are still available)

I have them on my Sport and previously had them on an XC90. They are quiet, smooth, good for fuel economy and last for miles! They are also more than capable in the snow, but have never tried them off road. Great tyre for the price and way better than the more expensive Continentals etc.

Forgot to say, my father-in-law has them on his Ford Ranger which goes everywhere on site and during the shooting season and they have proved way better in the mud than the previous Khumos or Pirellis before them.
