It bothers me that the prices vary so wildly for remaps. If you went in with an astra they charge you £100, turn up with a range rover and its 600 sobs! Are they saying the programming costs more for a rrs?? Range Rover Sport HSE DYnamic SDV6 Velocity blue 2020 MY

The plug and play 'Chip Express' box I refered to claims a power increase of up to 59 bhp and a tourque increase of up to 108 lbf/ft and for th equivalent of 80 pounds (second hand) thats a lot of improvement for not a lot of money!! |

Yes but it could also mean a lot damage to the engine and gearbox Producing more power and more torque doesn't necessarily mean its a better product, its all about safety margins and longevity of the componants you are changing and bell autos take all these facts into consideration, Pete can produce more bhp and torque but it might not last very long |

Personally, I'd steer clear of plug and play add-on boxes and opt for a bespoke/live remap.

I would like to see all these "facts". I'm willing to bet they don't have detailed failure reports to back up that statement. Range rovers owners seem to have a very high opinion of the brand which quite frankly isn't backed up by any facts. The cars have engines which are the same (in principle) as other engine manufactures, the engines aren't voodoo in range rovers, there's nothing special or unique of tuning or modifying that hasn't already been done to countless other engines. Increasing the power doesn't necessarily mean the engine is under more strain, it can produce less strain on the engine depending in what is modified. The engines are mass produced to suit various different markets and thus different fueling/ emission regulations and can be tweaked to suit the UK market with no impact on the life of the engine. The tuning boxes mentioned are proven to work and if you search the various different forums they have little in the way of problems. Me personally if I was going put to chase numbers again it would be a live map all the way. |

I'm not sure what tuning boxes people are talking about...but a friend of mine put one of those boxes that increases the fuel rail pressure, which was great for 2 years..until eventually it caused all sorts of issues and he's now taken it off wishing he'd never done it... RRS gone

I agree with what you are saying, but we don't always get to hear of a modified engine going pop because a lot of modified engines have some sort of warranty in place and the owners don't want to compromise their claim by advertising the fact that their engine has just gone bang but it was remapped to within an inch of its life, Thats why these mappers ask speciific details about your motor before remapping it, ie age mileage and any modifications already fitted to your motor, If a motor has got very high mileage with no rebuilds then a mapper may recommend you don't get it remapped because the engine may well be already coming towards the end of its realiable life and won't be able to cope with a modified map. If you went ahead with a remap and it failed soon after who would you be pointing your finger at. |

I had a 2.7 V6 for 2 years and 40,000 miles. 3 years old nearly when I bought it. Put a Diesel Tuning UK inline style box on it and it transformed the car. Better MPG and way more poke. No reliability issues and used the same manufacturer on 2 other cars I have had. The MY10 3.0 TDV6 can't be tuned this way so I am searching for an ECU remap ! |
