Does diesel go off?

Hi
I’ve been offered if I need it during the strike two 50 gallon plastic drums full of diesel. Very Happy
The only catch is its maybe as old as 3yrs. Does diesel go off like petrol? Should I filter it before use? Any ideas how?
Love you long time, 50 dollar bill, Kev

Well it is still volatile after millions of years in the rock formation! - I would suggest that its the additives that are the problem so it depends on the provider.

A couple of forums (USA) state the concern is that the additives destabilise and "could" cause damage to sensors for the Engine management system. Now - MY11 RRS Autobiography TDV6, Orkney gray, tints, steps, daylight running lamps and allllll the toys!!!
Ex- RRS HSE TDV6 07 Java Black, bi xenon, corner lights, side steps, tints, cool box, smoke side repeats, chrome "sport" boot sill
Ex - Audi A4 Cab 3.0TDi Quattro
Ex - Freelander2 SE TD4
Ex - CRV Auto

Spain

Hope it's only a little strike as 100 galls of diesel wont last line in a sport anyway, so should not be an issue, think of all the farmers etc who have 1000 gal tanks for their tractors etc. In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

I put 20l of diesel in a jerry can years ago at the time of the fuel blockades and forgot about it.
Put in in the disco years later ( about 6) and had no problem at all.

one of the issues for long term storage is algae growing in the tank/container. Yiu can get additional additives to keep this down.

the biofuel part of the diesel can grow algae which could block your filters, it will do that if there is water in the container, , from condensation maybe,
you could pour it through a funnel like this to be safer
