Air Compressor

lo all,

After starting my RRS, I can hear my compressor whirring away and working.

However after 3-4 mins the compressor cuts out and I get the amber warning light on the dash stating access height only. If I turn the engine off and on again it clears the fault and the compressor works for 3-4 mins again and then I get the warning light again.

Could this be the fuse or relay or does it mean the compressor is knackered?

James

Can you be a little more specific which fuse this is?

Can I tell by looking at it if it is blown?

Thanks

James

Sorry to sound dim.

How can I tell if it is blown?

Would it be worth just buying a new one anyway for £2.50?

Hi, it looks like a small yellow relay with a clear top/lid that can be removed,
if it has blown it will be quite apparant and then to test push the two parts
together and should cure problem then just order a new one as I did.
Was over the moon when realised for once with this motor something actually a cheap fix.

Ok,

I have just been out to check that fuse and it all looks OK from what I can see. It isnt discoloured and I cant seem to find any breaks in the fuse. However I have ordered a new fuse just to rule that out.

If this doesnt cure the fault, do you have any other ideas what the fault might be?

Would suggest make a friend of a local garage that carries snap on or other
software to interogate the computer of the RRS, because sometimes cheaper
them telling you what's not gone opposed to what has.

That's why when mine acted up took it local garage who told me that it wasn't the compressor
so I started to look at why and when it went, turned out when I ran the battery down then jump started
again that's what blew the fuse/relay, hope this helps, cheers
Tim

OK thanks Tim.

I will look into this then at at a local garage.

I have recently had a new battery put on my RRS.

Its just strange as when I start the engine I can hear the compressor working, then at any random time usually quite quickly now the amber light comes on and I cannot hear the compressor whirring. Until I turn the engine off and back on again.

That's what made me think it was the little relay cause mine
was the same like that's how long it took the relay to heat and trip out.

When I looked at mine first it wasn't obviious only that i tought i would
try and push them together just to see, look at the yellow relay along side the others and
then if in doubt put a wire betwenn them once it trips out, you know what i mean

One more thing...

How do you remove the relay?

Do you need a special tool?

Hello Chapman
your issue may be an internal leak on your compressor, caused by a weak exhaust valve. My rrs started by intermittantly flashing up amber, then eventually happened as yours is, every time. also it would be worth drying out the air dryer at the same time. The TSB below explains how to upgrade the compressor.

Thumbs Up

OK,

How do I go about doing this?

Is it a big job, is there a breakdown DIY knocking about anywhere?
