United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Stornoway Grey

The debate about the M6 is interesting ... I've just gone the other way from a 650 to a RRS. I always run cars for 5-10 yrs and put put heavy mileage on them, but the 650 just didnt work for me, sold it after 15 months. It did exactly what it said on the tin - it was the ultimate driving machine, but didnt make me smile when I got in it. Maybe its the styling point made earlier. Certainly wasnt reliable, failed me 3 times in 15 months.

We have the Freelander as a 'practical' vehicle, I was choosing that instead of the 650. Nuff said? 2007 TDV8 HSE, Stornoway, 20" HST alloys + GG ATs, HST body kit and Remap (+45 BHP + 100 Nm)
2002 Freelander 2.4 ES, Black, 16 alloys +GG AT2s

Funny you should say that I'm hearing similar storys about reliability all over at the moment. In what way did it fail you if you don't mind my asking?

The 2 failures that annoyed me were:

1. The drivers door jammed closed. No-one including the dealer could get in. I was bored of climbing over the transmission tunnel in the end had to fork out £1500 for the dealer to cut the leather off the inside of the door, so they could get to the mechanism and free it. The component that had failed was like the brake cable on a pedal bike, cost - I guess £50. The real cost was for a new door lining.

2. Midnight as I pulled off the motorway on business, instant and without warning total loss of power. The car was largely fly by wire, including the link from the accelerator pedal to EMU. The plastic bracket that held the cable attached had broken. A trivial but total failure. Wrecked my meeting the next day.

3. The third failure was my wifes fault - nuff said.

I've driven 5 series for 15 years, had failures, but always from worn out components which had more than done good duty. The above all felt like poor design/build. BMW didnt care less. Used to have 3 BMWs on the drive. Four bad winters, a move to the sticks, and the reliabilty problems above we now have the RRS and the Freelander. (Also an immaculate Z3 which is a collectors item) 2007 TDV8 HSE, Stornoway, 20" HST alloys + GG ATs, HST body kit and Remap (+45 BHP + 100 Nm)
