Predicament.......

Used S/C or wait for a TDv8.......................????

Local dealer has a Zambesi S/C 1st reg on 01/09/05 with 3600 miles on it for sale. No extras, bog standard S/C.

Or should I wait and go for a TDv8 HSE next year with extras and colour I want (not many as have simple tastes, probably PTI/BT, Dynamic Pack if not standard, Tow Pack and sunroof!) after seeing the spec and 2007 colours, although white or the same again would be fine for me.

Problem with TDv8 is the dealer has already got a mountain of orders for TDv8 RRS and FFRR and wait is likely to be a long one!

Have money in the bank earning very little interest and also burning large hole in pocket.....................

Don't get me wrong, I love my Giverny SE but might as well see about shifting it on while the prices are still good and let's face it will be going nowhere while I am at sea so I can wait and drive the Defender when I come home. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Tim,
Have you driven the s/c?
I think that once you've driven one (ooooh, that NOISE), it'd be very difficult to resist.

Got to be the SC, surely the TDV8 won't feel tonnes different to a TDV6.
Stratstone Nottingham have a Rimini red SC for sale "DP's car" def has PTI

The depreciation on a SC is great. The depreciation on a TDV8 will be very small, especially as the demand will be so high for the first year.
From your postings on your driving style and MPG returns, why the hell would you want to pay all that extra money for a supercharged? If you want to change, I would wait for the TDV8.

Or keep what you have a buy a Mini Cooper S as a third ‘fun’ car. It will only cost the extra for a TDB8 anyway and will depreciate less. That will give you far better performance than a LR and cost you no more. Matt

Tim save your money keep the RRS you have now and buy me a Defender Very Happy

I'm not sure which one i would go for but what i would is get my name down on the list for the TDV8 so this way when you see the spec list for the V8 and you don't like the look of it you can find your self a used S/C for the same sort of money Very Happy RRS TDV6 Gone but still around

Jay, you could sell off the van and the 1 series BMW and buy a nice NEW Td5 Defender 90 County Hard Top with the money you get (buy it for the business and pay no VAT, a Hard Top is the Van version) - in fact if you just sold the 1 series you could buy a very very nice 2nd hand TDi 300 (up to 1998 MY) Def and have plenty left to trick it up for offroading! Then I wouldn't need to buy you one.
If you flogged of the SL.......................... you could go along to JE Engineering and have a custom built 90 with a 5.0l V8 engine or a Bowler/Tom Cat that would be way cooler than the SL! They would even make you a soft top version if you wanted Cool Cool 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Tim, wait and place an order for a TDV8!

Does the S/C have PTI? A must have for a car of this value.

Do you want the fuel bills? Or the extra in insurance?

Apparantly the TDV8 will sound a lot like the S/C but without the (Quite so) horrendous fuel bills.

Residuals will be stronger

You will have the excitement of a new car

It will be specc'd to your liking with whatever bits you want to add on

You'll get a full 3 year warranty

You also don't have to go to the same dealer. Try another and get nearer the top of the list. Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

Problem with dealers SuperT........................ I already have the best one out of the 5 in Central Scotland and the others are all more than 40 miles away. That is why the local dealer has such a large pre-order book for TDv8's! They may not give fantastic discounts but they do give fantastic service! But yes I will shop around the others to see what deals they are doing, I'll also look at the brokers and importers. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
