England 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
what is Java black?

Have just registered today after lurking on here for a month or 2, and have recently bought a TDV6 HSE in Java black on a 57 plate.
now being very intrested in keeping it nice and clean, santa bought me a meguiars D/A for xmas was going to use it today for the first time, when my mate said......because its a mettalic finish, be carefull you dont remove the paint as mettalic paint doesn't have a clearcoat on it, but it dont look mettalic to me.
who's right?
could be a cheap, never used meguiars DA on fleabay soon
hope someone can help

Your mate is talking out of his arse...

It's a metallic and it does have a clear coat, and you can't damage the paint with a DA!!

cheers for the fast reply Nick, he had me worried saying that I'd end up with black paint on the pad the more you sweat in practice

they all have a lacquer layer, this is why you can polish out scratches that aren't finger nail feelable

Thumbs Up ============

I agree.... But not with the point about not being able to damage paint with a da.... Use a harsh compound and polishing pad and you could go through clear coat.

Always go with a mild polish and work your way up...

its very easy to damage ANY paintwork with a DA or orbital , i wouldnt suggest trying it yourself unless you know what your doing.

That's why lots of people shy away from rotarys, because the implied aspec of a DA is that it's hard to damage your paintwork, unless of course you throw it at your car!!

I've had a DA for a few years now and it's definitely harder to damage the paint with one, but as said above, use an aggressive pad and polish combo and you can still wreck the paint (I've not done that by the way Laughing )

I keep meaning to pick up a rotary as I like the idea of being able to correct the paint quicker, but as I only do my own cars, the DA does just fine. Thumbs Up ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

I tend to only do a couple of panels at a time so not such a worry, but agree, they do wriggle a bit Smile

santa bought me the Meguiars G220 v2 Dual Action Machine Polisher to give it, it's full name, have only used it for approx 2 hours and have not felt unduly shaken by it at all, which may be due to the fact that i use grinders and petrol cutters at work
And as I'm new to machine polishing cars....... i practiced on the wifes first the more you sweat in practice
the less you bleed in battle
