Why doe land rover not offer a 20" spare option?

Sorry if this has been covered before, but I couldn't see any other threads!

So why can you not specify 20" spare as an option? Is it something to do with directional tyres maybe? MY2010 3.0 TDV6 HSE, Zermatt silver/Ebony/walnut, privacy, side steps, rubber mats and standard otherwise...

20 inch wheel will fit under the car, both 19 & 20 have the same rolling diameter.

I would assume that economies of scale was the main driver for all disco and RRS having a 19 inch spare

Why would you want a 20inch spare? Unless you plan to rotate your spare out on to the car, it would be fairly pointless. The 19inch will suffice for the trip from puncture to tyre fitter for a repalcement main tyre. And for quite a large number of RRS on the road, the supplied wheels would have been 19inch all round. So LR would need to source a 20inch as well. Which would put the price up I guess. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Just buys a bit more time to source a repair/new tyre if on hols in the alps etc.

All new hse uk spec upwards RRS from my2010 come with 20" standard, so there are plenty of 20" wheeled cars out there.

Just thought that land rover wouldn't have a problem offering a full sized spare as they do with new freelander 2 cars, as an option - unless there was size issue (tyre width etc)?

New 20" single wheels are found in plentiful ly on fleabay, so thought I'd check before buying one Wink MY2010 3.0 TDV6 HSE, Zermatt silver/Ebony/walnut, privacy, side steps, rubber mats and standard otherwise...

and in summary for me a wider wheel/tyre combo will hang lower and potentially be prone to damage.

I've had so many cars now with either 'space saver' or different spec spare wheels, I'd not even thought about upgrading to a 20" alloy to match the rest.
Given the 'on show' location of the spare on the RRS, I think that having a bog standard 19" is just fine Smile ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

This must be one of those quirky Landrover things.

My D4 came with 20 inch wheels fitted and spare is a 20 inch as well Question Exclamation Question

Perhaps its to keep the profit margins up on the RRS Now driving a rather smart looking Van

Is it all to do with LR brochure quoted departure angle which is important for off roading?

To be able to quote the maximum departure angle the first thing to hit the ground when you go from level to a steep incline must be the rear bumper rather than the spare wheel.

My 07 TdV8 came with 20" road wheels and a 19" black spare. The spare was fitted with a 255/50x19 tyre and is actually a Disco wheel which is 1" narrower than a standard 19" RRS road wheel.

Just to add to the confusion, a D4 20" carries a 255/50x19 tyre and the rim is 8.5" wide. A RRS 20" carries a 275/40x20 tyre and is 9.5" wide so a 20" D4 spare will not hang as low as a 20" RRS spare.

To add to the confusion - why do LR specify 255/55x19 winter tyres rather than standard 255/50x19 for RRS. Question
