Your comparing the TDV8 to the newer V6 the OP is after an 07-09 plate.... so check the value of a 2.7 TDV6 and then we will have the facts! TBH I don't care about the value as I have had a range of cars etc and I have never cared about depreciation costs.... had an M5 before the TDV8 and the depreciation on that was fooking nuts Censored ... Bow down but what the heck we only live once!!! or if we live again I will be a poor fooker LOL

No I'm not, I'm giving an example of figures, 05-09 TDV6 maintained its prices again this month as it did last month Thumbs Up . TDV8 looses more as a % than any other model across the RRS range at the monet which is due to a number of factors.

I'm not slating the car, I've bought and sold quite a few TDV8's and its a really nice engine that suits the car. If I had sub 30k for a RRS id probably pitch for a TDV8 myself as the 2.7 TDV6 is under powered and having had a few Supercharged RRS as my daily runner I know the fuel costs are a burden. If in a higher price bracket, 35k+ the TDV8 doesn't make any sense its an aged technology, which offers little performance gains over that of the newer TDV6 or SDV6 , running costs are greater and depreciation is greater..... Some of the reasons why LR have discontinued the engine.

I remember all these debates over the 4.4 petrols when owners fiercely defended their purchases and we all know what happened there. Laughing

Interesting debate, particularly as I am in the market for an RRS as well.

I test drove both a 2007 TDV6 and a 2007 TDV8.

The TDV6 felt fine for getting about town but on a motorway it was underpowered when it came to overtaking from 30-50 or 50-70.

The TDV8 on the other hand felt a touch overpowered for town driving but perfect on the motorway.

For me, the TDV8 felt the better all round engine.

I wasn't aware that there were two TDV6 engines though (other than the SDV6 in the facelift model).

Is this correct and from what model year was the updated TDV6 engine ? What were the changes ? Proud owner of a 2008 TDV8 HSE.....and an Audi A3 2.0T DSG Cab and a Porsche 911 Turbo (Mercedes W208 320 CLK and Mercedes W124 E220 Estate now gone)

First V6 engine 05-09 188 bhp 2.7L Second V6 engine 09 to date 245 bhp 3.0L and then the new SDV6 255 bhp. 3.0L Thumbs Up

So the RRS has two V6 3L engines, one with 245BHP and the other with 255BHP both on sale at the same time ? Proud owner of a 2008 TDV8 HSE.....and an Audi A3 2.0T DSG Cab and a Porsche 911 Turbo (Mercedes W208 320 CLK and Mercedes W124 E220 Estate now gone)

I believe (and its what is listed on the website) that any new cars are the 255bhp SDV6 engine and that along with the SC are the only variants available.
There would have been a crossover period where the two were available and I'm sure there are unsold TDV6 engines in 245 bhp guise that are knocking around, maybe demo's etc.

There was an article I read in EVO I think that mentioned two varients being available the above and a 208bhp cersion, but thats not what is replicated on the LR website. Confused

Technical highlights?
The overwhelming majority of British Range Rover Sports are diesel-powered, and there are now two different states of engine tune for the popular 3-litre V6 oiler. The more powerful of these is badges ‘SDV6’ and comes with 253bhp – 15bhp more than before – although torque, an impressive 443lb ft, stays as before. As you’d expect these days, the CO2 rating also drops from 243g/km to 230g/km. The less powerful version, badged ‘TDV6’ is even cleaner, with 208bhp, 384lb ft of torque and an official CO2 score of just 224g/km – giving lower tax bills

Depreciation worse than a V6? Are you kidding?

Showing your naivety again princess..... Rolling Eyes Its sad but true % depreciation on a TDV8 is much greater than that of a TDV6,
TDV8 was the only RRS to drop in price in this months guide (-£1100) where as the 3.0 TDV6 went up in the guide (+£725) and 4.2 Supercharged remained the same.

woop-de-dooooooo, I'd need to spend more on therapy if I had a TDV6 Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

something you let other people worry about! Let them take the hit then buy the car that you want at thge price you can afford. You then run it as long as you want and sell it for what you can get.

Jeez, you'll be specifying your cars based on what the guy you sell it to wants next. What? You mean people do that sort of thing? Wierd!

Just buy the car you want and can afford. If you can't afford it, don't buy it. If you can, then do. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

For some, affordabilty can be a function of both the initial purchase price and the final selling price when moving on. So depreciation has to be a factor to be taken into account at the beginning.

Having said that I've driven both the old V6 and the new SDV6 and neither came close to the V8. However, the 8 speed box with the SDV6 is something I'm now very jealous of, having only 6 gears Mr. Green

Affordability is a big factor in my experience, However Ive found people who finance their cars mostly don't care and simply look at the monthly figure (if i can afford it , ill buy it Thumbs Up ) There are a lot of people out there whom have very little understanding of the car market ^^ and of course if it wasn't for them the rest of use who do have a clue wouldn't fair quite as well. Thumbs Up

I agree - know you mention this I know a few people that swap cars on this basis but both of them I'd put into the definitely not a petrolhead camp. Cars get them from A to B and go with an odd choice of cars depending on what's on offer at the time to change.
