Which Petrol V8 engine is the best ? (MY 2007-4,2 or 4,4 ?)

Hi,

I am french and I have 3 land rover (109 SW/1969 - 90 Tomb Raider - Disco3 TDV6).

A friend of mine want to buy a V8 petrol RRS, MY 2007.

But in France, we can see 2 differents models :

4,4 V8 HSE 300 HP, like this one :

4,2 V8 Supercharged 390 HP, like this one :

I don't know the differences between V8 engines.

I know that on has more power, but also more taxes in France Whistle

But, are they good motors, or one is better that an other ? One has some big problems ?

He don't want to change the engine in 1 year Laughing

An other question : is the gearbox the same as a TDV6 engine ?

Scotland 2010 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Santorini Black

4.4 was a bit of a flop in the UK, they were sold for a limited period and were never very popular due to the running costs and poor performance figures compared to that of the S/C. Not sure on the french market but there are plenty S/C sports in the UK available for decent money.

MY advice 4.2 S/C and steer clear of the 4.4 Thumbs Up

In effect, the 4.4V8 was replaced by the TDV8 which had nearly the same power but huge amounts more torque and used less fuel too. The 4.4 wasn't powerful enough and used too much fuel for what it gave. Was probably really in the range to keep the US market happy as they're not in to diesel in the way we Europeans are.

If you're going petrol you may as well get the S/C and have fun for not much more fuel than the 4.4 would use. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
