My RRS 2005 TDV6 HSE has 100K miles on it. Had it inspected prior to purchase and checked the service history with a magnifying glass. It went into a LR dealer for a few bits and pieces whilst I was away working and they pronounced it a very nice example.

It's now being looked after by an independent who says similar (kiss of death as someone has already posted...) similar.

I intend to change the oil and filter every 5K miles, this makes a huge difference to high miler engines in their third age my experience tells me.

It wasn't cheap (in the current climate I could have bought many style of new car for what I paid but it was the going rate for RRS of this ilk).

Like anything motor related, do your homework and you can buy well.

I'm very pleased and when I look at some of the posts people with new cars have problems that mine hasn't (yet).

There's some dogs out there for sure....

Any tips for what to look out for on 05/06 V6 motors....?

Where (or by whom) did you have it inspected ? Proud owner of a 2008 TDV8 HSE.....and an Audi A3 2.0T DSG Cab and a Porsche 911 Turbo (Mercedes W208 320 CLK and Mercedes W124 E220 Estate now gone)

United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Arctic Frost

Hi, sorry for the delay in replying, I work at sea without net access all the time.

I got the AA to inspect mine. They were sound and picked up enough to get some decent haggling done over the price.

I tested EVERYTHING down to the spare wheel winch. Buy a users manual on Ebay and familiarise yourself with the vehicle and then you'll be in a good position to test it all.

As soon as I had bought it I took it straight to a LR dealer for a thorough inspection in case there were any hidden gremlins as there's some come back on a trader purchase.

I should have taken it to James French 4x4 in Oxfordshire as they did a cracking job on an upgrade and few bits and bobs. As a guide, the less 'bling', the better the expected service history should be.

Buy with your head, own with your heart.

Good luck! 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE in Artic Frost. 20" 2010 HST Alloys, sidesteps, Hawke tips, plus minor bits and bobs along with a remap. Four spike spiders ready for the Alps again now tucked up in their garage boxes...

thats a pretty diligent check on a used car mate good shout, I've never really went to those lengths however.
I've found that I usually get a gut feel about a car from its owners story and a check on the main things, engine, steering, wheels, tyres, brakes, exhausts and electrical items

Couldn't agree more with a gut feeling. That's usually my indicator to buy.

These are big cars and there are quite a few dogs about.

Probably similar to many I don't have time to get a car sorted mechanically, especially if I'm paying good money.

I'm well pleased with my '05' plate TDV6 HSE and the upgrade was worth every penny.

Thanks for the feedback.

I always like to get my cars inspected, usually by a reputable specialist garage near the seller but this is not always possible.

I have used the AA once but wasn't impressed with the level or depth of the inspection carried out so a little put off by them. Proud owner of a 2008 TDV8 HSE.....and an Audi A3 2.0T DSG Cab and a Porsche 911 Turbo (Mercedes W208 320 CLK and Mercedes W124 E220 Estate now gone)
