United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Orkney Grey
Battery issue

Went to start the RRS today - dead battery. Wouldn't even start with a jump from a friend's Disco. Looking at the battery, one of the cells has an oily residue around the top-up plug. I'm guessing a dead cell.

New battery bought from Land Rover (Hartwells at Oxford) for £145 incl. Car started first time and doesn't report any other problems on the instrument panel screen.

What is interesting/concerning is that the old battery, although a Land Rover badged item, is the wrong spec. It's 80Ah/700A and a bit small in the battery bay; the new one from Land Rover is 90Ah/950A and fills the battery bay. The manual says 90Ah for diesels, 70 for petrols.

I'm wondering if someone has been a bit naughty and put e.g. a Freelander battery in at some point. I'm hoping that there will be no further issues as a result of this battery issue...

Does anyone know what current draw the car will make with the car unlocked but the key out of the igniton. No lights on either. I got about 2A which I'm guessing is a little high but not too worrying in a car used every day. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

The old battery appears to be one of these:

Guessing someone did the usual "what's the cheapest battery I can find?" trick. Great, thanks mate.

Of course, makes me wonder what else has been done cheap... Evil or Very Mad 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
