DRDIL, tbh not sure of the exact terminology regarding the gearbox, I was more referring to the twin turbo engine as I thought the SDV6 stood for Sequential Diesel as opposed to TDV6 being Turbo Diesel.
(I understand now that there are now two turbos with an additional small one for the low down rev range)

Either way, engine and gearbox work well together Thumbs Up ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

The 2010MY 3.0, although a TD, had the new twin, sequential diesel V6, replacing the single turbo of the 2.7. The SDV6 is still sequential in that it has a large and a small turbo in line. It is just a bit quieter & has a tweak to give it more power.

The gearbox is now the ZF 8 speed. Yum! Gone:

Thanks for clarifying Triple7, I didn't realise that the earlier engines have a twin turbo too.

Yes, you're right about the 8 speed box, it definitly allows it to pull away very swiftly and also tick over at minimal revs when cruising on the motorway. Cool ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Turbo Lag

I've just sold my MY10 HSE and looking forward to the arrival of my MY12 in a few weeks, i found the turbo lag on my MY10 at low revs very annoying and found myself hesitating and not having the confidence at junctions when wanting to pull away quickly. Look forward to seeing if the new transmission and turbos improve this. Current: MY 12 HSE Autobiography Kit

My old petrol (4.2 SC) would often get confused at junctions when in traffic - accelerate slightly to the junction, lift off to check traffic to the right, then try and accelerate across the junction/enter the roundabout. Gearbox didn't know what to do and you'd end up drifting slowly into the road. Possibly due to the very low 1st gear and the gearbox programmed to be in 2nd asap unless stationary.

Hence, may not be an oil-burner-only problem.

@ Naz - You'll definitely find the turbo lag is removed. My old 2.0 Tdi Audi would be the same, I have found that the RRS is very eager to set off and there's no lag at lower revs. Don't forget to get some pics up when you get your new one Thumbs Up

@ philmw, I know what you mean, thinks it quite a common problem on a lot of auto boxes, but again I've not noticed it happening on the RRS, so it could be down to some clever computer trickery managing the new 8 speed box well. ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

@Beancounter_74 I hear that you can now stream audio from ur phone to the car as if the sound system were an oversized pair of bluetooth headphones, have you tried this?

Also i notice u dont have rear entertainment i didn't get it on my new one and am wondering if it will still have the video auxillary in ports in the rear passenger footwell area?? Current: MY 12 HSE Autobiography Kit

Naz, Yes, have tried the bluetooth streaming from the wife's iPhone 3GS, works very well, although to be honest I prefer to use the cable to the USB port in the centre console (above the fridge Cool ) as that way the phone charges too.

Re the aux in ports, I've not noticed any, so assume there are none (just rear heated seats controls) in that area. There's two ports in the centre console for an iPhone and USB. Which play through the front screen.

I decided against the rear screens as already have two iPads in the house, so seemed an unecessary expense tbh. ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

2012 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Santorini Black

Looking good mate, Iv order pretty much the same, only differences are black leathers with contrast stitch and no tow bar.

Im also considering the Diamond finish Alloys? Any thoughts on them? Extra 700 quid but look great. Still debating, as im a privilege customer I haven't a clue when my motor will arrive but still time to decide on the above. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Diamond cut alloys look good but mark up really easily and road salt seems to destroy the finish,it seems to get under the laquer very easily, also harder to get refurbed.Have a good look at some on used cars very few will be perfect.
Only my opinion for what it's worth Wink

Hmm, that don't sound too good. Confused I really liked the darker finish, would love a black set but the maintenance sounds a major problem. Thanks for the advice mate.

Thanks supadipps, I'm really pleased with it.

I too nearly went for the diamond turned wheels, but as mrfixit says, they do have a tendency to lose that lovely finish at the mere sign of bad weather unless you can keep on top of the maintenance.
Also for me, Mrs Beancounter has a habit of kerbing just about every set of alloys I've ever had and I thought that having a diamond turned finish would just make the inevitable repairs harder and more costly. Big Cry

If you do decide on the diamond turned finish or any finish for that matter, protect them from new with something like 'gtechniq C5' to give them the best chance of survival, it'll make cleaning them so much easier Wink

Hope your cars not too far from delivery and remember to get some pictures up once you've taken delivery. The black with contrast stitching looked great in the car I saw in the showroom Thumbs Up ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Two months on.....

Well, I've got just shy of 2000 miles on the clock and I thought I’d give a little update of how I’m finding it – In short I love it! Bow down

This was my first RRS and I’ll be honest, I wasn’t 100% sure what to expect. I’d always loved the shape, but had been put off in the past by friends who said they were thirsty to run, unreliable etc. I only had a relatively short ‘spirited’ test drive before buying and took delivery fairly soon after, but now having had the car for longer it really is fantastic.

It seems that most of the things that I take for granted on it are new to the MY2012 model, such as the updated software interface/navigation, powered one piece tailgate and 8 speed gearbox, so I'll try and give my views on these.

The 8 speed box is definitely a highlight, I’ve not had any problems that were mentioned in the press about ‘hunting for gears’, it really is very smooth and quick to change, and when you put your foot down it finds the required gear swiftly and allows overtaking without any drama. It clearly helps with the MPG too. Now it’s getting run in I’m averaging about 35mpg on a long run and about 28mpg around town, which I think in all honesty is very good. I’d expect that to creep up a little when the weather gets warmer too. Oh and the rotary dial is brilliant, i love the way it disappears when you turn the car off, leaving a very clean lined center console.

The powered tailgate, (I have to admit, I’d never been a fan of the split tailgate, to me the only way a tailgate should be split is ‘a la’ the FFRR or X5 providing somewhere nice to place your hamper of Pimms!) I think it’s great, and you don’t need to worry about getting dirty hands when the back of the cars covered in muck, a quick blip on the remote (or press on the dash) and up she goes, its quick to open/close too. The only thing I wish it had is a way to close it remotely, from say the dashboard or remote, rather than just the button on the tailgate, but I’m sure there is some H&S issue that won’t allow it, but it would be a useful addition.

Software interface, the new touchscreen interface is very easy to navigate and quick to respond, I sacrificed the dual view to take quick delivery, and I can honestly say so far, there have not been any instances in which I (or the wife) have needed it, so for me, that was £650 saved (……but I’ll admit it would have been Cool to have). The navigation is also much improved according to most people, and I use it fairly regularly, I’ve only had one ‘incident’ and that was when it got confused when I surfaced from the Barbican car park in London, whereby it thought I was some 500yds from my actual position, but to give it its due, it resolved it within 30 seconds of its own accord. I still think it looks a little 'basic' compared to other systems, but it's good all the same.

The ride is great, I tend to drive in the dynamic mode most of the time and for its size, it’s very responsive and dare I say agile. I also recently went on an LR Experience day at Luton Hoo and was amazed at what these cars can do, although mine will not see that much mud in its life with me Embarassed

So, there you have it, a few thoughts on the car so far. I’m happy to answer more specific things if anyone has any questions. ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i
