I use mine, as when you take foot off the brake on a hill , without the EPB on there is an amount of play in the gearbox until it engages the gear and stops, I would think 2.5 tonnes rolling onto the gear would cause wear? My parking space at work has a slight incline so it would be happening 2 or 3 times a day , over 4 or 5 years that is 3000 "bumps" into the gearbox! Im a firm believer in mechanical sympathy!

Just as well I live nowhere near the sea or I would be sat on the sea front ship spotting every day - pretty fruitless exercise on the Clyde or the Forth these days though.............
