Ok , looks like I have a fix for those whose parking brake doesn't operate!
Applying the EPB automatically: EPB will be switched on in the ignition is switched off and not moving.
To disable the automatic application pull the switch up and within 5 seconds switch off ignition and hold for a further 2 seconds.
You probably do it again to set it to auto??

Thanks for looking in to this, sounds like you have found the answer... Some cars have had the Auto EPB feature enabled from factory/dealer & some have not. I use mine, as when you take foot off the brake on a hill , without the EPB on there is an amount of play in the gearbox until it engages the gear and stops, I would think 2.5 tonnes rolling onto the gear would cause wear? My parking space at work has a slight incline so it would be happening 2 or 3 times a day , over 4 or 5 years that is 3000 "bumps" into the gearbox! Im a firm believer in mechanical sympathy!

There is also the fact that if you hold the car against the foot brake at the traffic lights, the poor guy behind you is being dazzled by your high level brake light....................... also not engaging the EPB at standstill might be held against you by your insurer should your foot slip off the foot brake and the car drive off on it's own.............. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Just as well I live nowhere near the sea or I would be sat on the sea front ship spotting every day - pretty fruitless exercise on the Clyde or the Forth these days though.............
Years ago I was at the Southampton Boat Show and the ship I was waitng to join at Southampton went passed the show. I was stood on the pontoons watching her go past and a very knowledgable yottie gentleman was informing everybody within earshot all about the ship (which was 95% incorrect but who except me knew) however where he really made himself into the laughing stock of the pontoon was when he broadcast to one and all that she was destined for New York and was on her way out to sea............... except she was going the wrong way and headed further up river to the container terminal and most people knew which way that was!

I handed him my business card and invited him to come onboard and have a look - and also advised him to get a better compass.............. and that she had just arrived from Singapore and was then going to Rotterdam, Hamburg and back to Southampton before heading back to Singapore Via Suez.
