Canada 2006 Range Rover Sport 4.4 V8 HSE Rimini Red
Gas consumption

Hi Guys, well I have had my RRS for over a month now and not one problem.
I did take it up to 220 km hr once and only for a short time, wife was looking at me with that look, so back down to the speed limit, which is 110 km hr.
I have approx 1800 miles (2890 km) on the tachometer and averaging 21 mpg (imp gal).I know that is not the 25 mpg as stated in the brochures, but I am quite happy with the mileage. I am sure it will get better after 5000 miles.
Considering on my LR3 the best I ever got was 19 mpg.
Have a great day guys, love this forum.

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Zermatt Silver

21mpg is not bad. I think that 25mpg is the best that you should get if driving very gently on a long run.
The fuel consumption of both petrol models is supposed to be similar, but I only averaged 15.5mpg when I test drove the Supercharged, and that was taking it very easy. Apparently the dealer got 5mpg on the local test track. (all imperial).

Bob. RRS 4.2 S/C. Zermatt. Tints. Stormers. 150+ paint defects, wonkey bonnet, scratches, detached doorseal. suspension faults. To sum it up, a 60k pile of cr4p!

21mpg is pretty good for the 4.4 - there are diesels that will do that if driven hard. For your comparison, my TDV6 has 12000 miles on the clock and is averaging about 26mpg.

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport SDV6 Autobiography Java Black

Two weeks old, 1400 miles on the clock and 22.8 mpg.

I was expecting it to be better to be honest Sad It's finally gone! Replaced with BMW 730SE in Sophisto grey Xirallic finish with Oyster (Ivory) and black interior. DAB, Climate glass, Ceramic iDrive and gear selector, power boot and iPhone Bluetooth pack - luvvin' it!

I miss my old RRS "bucket" rattling around but it just had to go!

Peter you will see much better as the engine loosens up. Remember a diesel is only just run-in at 50,000 miles so there are a few to go yet! Laughing
Seriously you will probably find that about 3000 miles, 5000 miles and 8000 there will be noticable improvements. I cannot explain this but with the last 2 modern Land Rovers I have owned (TD4 Freelander and TD6 FFRR) both also displayed this and I wonder if there is something programmed into the ECU. Since clocking up 8000 miles (and admittedly a update to the ECU) mine is now averaging 28-29mpg in everyday running on fast A roads and is returning up to 32.4 on prolonged motorway runs sat on the cruise control at 70. I don't know about the guys who use theirs to commute into work (I don't have any commuting to do to get to work) but I recall some saying that they had also noticed "graduated" improvement in the mpg with miles. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Thanks for that info Tim, really interesting.

I have been toying with the idea of chipping it to see what improvements that might bring but was a little concerned at what LR might say!

I saw your mail after the LR Factory visit and how many mpg you you got on your way back north, I started to think I just had a lead right boot!!

Thanks again, I love this forum. It's finally gone! Replaced with BMW 730SE in Sophisto grey Xirallic finish with Oyster (Ivory) and black interior. DAB, Climate glass, Ceramic iDrive and gear selector, power boot and iPhone Bluetooth pack - luvvin' it!
