OK,lets look at the facts,in between Preston and Scotland where the car density is miniscule, very few junctions with cars coming on in any numbers they now have hidden camera vans on the edge of bridges catching every car going slightly over the limit why is that?
On the A57 Snake Pass near me on most Sundays Derbyshire Police have 2 camera vans disguised as builders vans, painted blue with newspapers and pop tins on the dash, why is that?
Are they the slightest bit interested in slowing people down,no,of course not they just want (need) revenue.

Have you tried getting in touch with the police recently,I have after my wife's car was hit and run in Sheffield, gave up after an hour and went to Chesterfield instead to report it,it then took over a week for them to process the paperwork and for us to get a call back.
Why is it then given their scant resources they choose to allocate so much time to persecuting motorists rather than low life scum committing violent drug induced crime, that's easy, less work, less risk and we pay up without arguing, simple.

The UK 70 mph speed limit was set in something like the 1970's when people were driving around in Anglia's with drum brakes and most had top speeds well below 90mph,the current limit is ludicrous.
I regularly drive on the continent both for business and pleasure and see far more accidents caused on motorways here by nobheads tailgating rather than travelling safely at high speed.
If you went to Germany would you drive at 70 because it's safer,of course not it is just some arbitary figure that has no place in a modern world with massively reduced braking distances and ABS.

Perhaps you could enlighten us on any proof you have that cameras have had any impact at all on reducing accidents? MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

This is just 1 of the articles showing how devious they are,how can that be a deterrent?
http://200weeks.police999.com/archives/date/2008/05/page/2

The Blogger is a serving officer who is also disgusted with how other officers are being deployed as tax collectors rather then crime prevention/detection.
More here:
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.a...&mid=0

Interestingly they had broken the law by painting it and not notifying the DVLA.

I went fishing yesterday and they also have a completely unmarked black BMW motorbike with a plain clothed rider nicking bikers in Matlock Mad

Can you imagine how many uninsured and untaxed cars they could catch in a day if they put the same effort into some of the council estates in the east end of Sheffield and why don't they, because they are are all on benefits and wouldn't pay up and there would be no point taking them to court because the prisons are full of MP's. MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

The problem is, we are easy targets, fully paid up legel motorists who occasionally want to enjoy our pride and joy. Chris calm down get off your soap box and get yourself a whisky mate Thumbs Up

Ady,
That's another avenue of pleasure that I'm now denied, after lasts weekends partying we all decided we were overweight and we are now all on the Dukan Diet so no alcohol for about 2 months.
It is working though I've lost 2Kg since last Sunday.
Only one slight problem that I haven't resolved what snack can I eat whilst out all day fishing instead of sandwiches, nuts, pop and crisps??? MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

But according to last week's DT, it doesn't matter...cos whatever weight you lose, you will put back on afterwards. So, if you go on a diet an lose x amount you will gain x amount post diet. The only cure is not to go on a diet and take enough exercise to equal the calorific intake.

Didn't see the article was it about diets in general or this one specifically?
We're all doing a minimum of 30 minutes a day walking the dog (he's knackered) and in our own gym on either the bike or the rower.
The diet is excellent if you read the book, once we get to about 60 days in we can start feeding treats back in so by the end of September I can have lager and curry again on Friday nights.
Not allowed to use escalators or elevators so that's going to be challenging Big Cry
Only time will tell if it works but we're all happy with it at the moment.

Is this the article:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/expathea...erted.html

Reflects my experience a week in,its working for us at the moment but obviously time will tell I set my goal of losing just 28lbs in 60 days so my weight loss is slower but I think sustainable. MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

We do not live in a dictatorship, rules and laws in this country are there to protect and preserve the rights of the people not to persecute and punish no matter what the crime is. The punishment should fit the crime, and if the police where called because my toddler lifted a penny sweettie and had to serve the same punishment as someone who had broken into my house then the world really would be a terrible place. 2010 Alaska white 3.6TDi v8, heated steering wheel, Ipod connection, Aribica extended leather, Digital TV, voice activation, privacy glass, Dynamic pack

Would 100% agree

We are loosing our ability in society to accept accidents happen, mistakes are mistakes, that we are innocent until proven guilty and give people the benefit of doubt and hindsight Mike

I would like to know why our lawmakers allowed a change to the law whereby speeding is the only offence whereby the owner of the vehicle has no right to silence and assumed innocent until proven guilty, why should we be made to admit an offence, that is completely contrary to everything else in our criminal justice system.
Perhaps if you were like many of us that rely on our cars for our businesses driving 30K miles a year you might have the same view,I wouldn't have a problem just paying a fine if I got caught what I do object to is the points system which takes no account whatsoever of annual mileage and need.
To me it is all about priorities with so much criminality and violence in our society I cannot fathom why so much police time is allocated to motoring offences where the driver has drifted just above the limit. MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

It may be a good idea to look at some past court cases involving speeding where people have been let off, what was the argument, what where the deciding factors in getting off with the offence. 2010 Alaska white 3.6TDi v8, heated steering wheel, Ipod connection, Aribica extended leather, Digital TV, voice activation, privacy glass, Dynamic pack
