Auto wipers

Does anybody know how they work or what operates them? Mine keep coming on every now and again even when not raining????? Sad Sad

There is a sensor at the top of the windscreen and when the light entering the sensor is modified by a rain drop it activates the wipers. Of course the sensor cannot tell the difference between a rain drop or something else that interrupts the light. I have major problems with bugs and locusts getting splattered in the screen - sometimes maybe a flying leaf.

It is a limitation of the system and something to be lived with. If it becomes annoying just turn it off at the wiper switch.
