2011 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Santorini Black
Paintwork Protection

Hi All

Relatively new to this, I have been watching from afar whilst waiting for the RRS to be delivered. Took delivery about 4 weeks ago of a 2011 RRS HSE in black, with black leather etc. (Not very imaginative I know - the neighbours keep reminding me). Fantastic car, really enjoying it when SWIMBO lets me that is.

I have one problem, it seems to get scratched very easily. We are ultra careful ourselves & seem to drive to where we are going, return home & park safely on the drive, then walk back to where we wanted to be just to be sure.

The question I have is, are there any treatments etc I can apply that will put a protective coat on the car to stop it being scratched so easily & if there are what are they?

Cheers in advance,
Steve

What type of scratches? Just very fine ones, orones that can be caught with a fingernail? And where are the scratches?

There is the clear wrap type protection or Look at Carpro CQuartz treatment which is dine once the paint is polished and corrected it's a hard finish in laymens terms which give a greater scratch protection

Pinks I agree, but that's the reason why I asked where they are appearing, as traditionally it's really for front bumper, bonnet and wing mirrors....

It's the problem with black look so good till it gets brushed up against and they show up the slightest of marks, could be solved by polishing and a good wax, there's one called swissvax shield designed for 4x4's but I think it more towards dirt than hardness

Steve,
My detailer has just started trying out a nano particle ceramic coating which was designed by the Williams Formula 1 team and is guaranteed for 5 years, not sure how much it costs but could find out for you if its of interest.

Hi All,

Thanks for the speedy replies.

NickM - They are fine scratches, cannot be felt by the finger nail. The latest 2 - one is about 6 inches long, horizontal a couple of inches below the nearside rear door handle, the second is vertical, about an inch long below the drivers handle. There is another on the nearside wheel arch that was caused in transportation & is being sorted by the dealer.

Open to any ideas, thought there may be some kind of polishes/waxes etc that could protect it more that is current.
Is the paint particularly soft or are we being careless. Last cars Audi TT, BMW x5 and Mercedes CLK cabrio never had any problems.

Cheers once again.

LR paint is renowned for being very very soft. Get a good polish which has a filler in it ...try Auto Glym Super Resin Polish and see if that helps it...I think it will....le us know what happens. Once it masks the scratches. Two coats of Collys will keep it looking good......

ChrisP - thanks but I can't blame them, we went over it with a fine toothcomb when it arrived & highlighted the one scratch on it & slight mark on an alloy, caused by the straps on transportation. Dealer sorting out no quibbles. Still don't know where they have come from though.

NickM - thanks for that, I'll have a go at it this weekend, the original marks are being sorted Wednesday this week. So should be able to have a go at it this weekend if the weather permits.

Cheers for everyones help.
Steve

Steve just a last minute thought, if they are sorting out the marks they made, the fine scratches you are talking about, will take 10 mins to get out with a polisher. Ask them to do it and bung them a score....job done Thumbs Up

Cheers, have asked them to look at them whilst it's there, so fingers crossed. I'm keen to try & get something on that will give it a bit of protection. Will look out for the Collys & have a go at it.

Cheers
steve

Cheers, it would have been embarrassing after a while when no-one knew what I was on about.

In Tingley, are you from the area?
