2008 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
Extended warranty

Evening All.

As we are keeping Mrs JFK`s `Sport`, because neither of us liked the Posh Spice thing, I am wondering if I should spend £800 on the extended warranty.

Car has done 22k troublefree in almost 3 yrs so Im not sure if its worth it.

Just wondering what thoughts you all have on it. Rolls Royce Ghost, RRS 2.7 TDV6, E220 Avantgarde Estate.

Wouldn't dream of running a LR product without a warranty, they are just too unreliable! For me it's a case of getting the best warranty I can for reasonable dosh (not necessarily cheapest), they can be the automotive equivalent of the film "The Money Pit". The present D3 is the last LR product I'll be buying as a main family car, by the time I work my way around the other manufacturers I'll be too senile to drive. That's a big change as the last 5 main family cars have been LRs (3 x D3s, a D2 and a 90) but you reach the point of having had enough, it is just a never ending stream of problems. Based on my experiences, other experiences vary and may the gods be with you! Whistle

If I were you I would definatly get a warranty! mine ran out in March so took out an extended Warranty and just as I expected the car develeped a fault last week (Air Flow Meter) would have set me back over £400, these cars arn't cheap when they go wrong. BLACK RRS HST 3.6 MY08

Some people over play problems and reliability - any forum, such as this, will flag problems as thats there point! but many many many other cars have problems - compare that to the number sold the failure or issue % is low and no better or worse than other cars in the main...premium or otherwise.

Ive owned the recent line up without warranty - although this is my first sport - would i own the sport without warranty...i dont know, depends if i decided to keep it first!

I think there are points to consider, such as your capability - changing a MAF is a 10 minute job and certainly something i would and have done...as are many other tasks. So if you are prepared to do that then actually whats the point of a warranty.

Now yes if something major fails then it can get expensive (as with any car) and you need to balance that risk and remember comprehensive car insurance.

Its a balance of a number of factors and if you can afford a warranty - why not - but ask yourself will it pay out! Mike

if you were to ask "murphy" he would advise that if you get the warranty you won't need it and if you don't get the warranty you will wish you had done so. My advice is that you had obviously budgeted for a replacement vehicle which now will not be required, therefore you should allocate a small amount of that budget to add value and security to the vehicle you have decided to keep.
