It's even worse when somebody is sitting in that lane and there's no traffic in the other one |

Got to hand it to Johnny Foreigner, they do know how to drive across Continental Europe, pull out, overtake, pull in and thats with 2 lanes ...........sometimes on the M25 (with 5 lanes) they still sit there scared to move in (for whatever reason).......I sometimes think they have special powers and can see things that I cant (invisible cars or suchlike)....but then I realise its nothing short of special needs and their inability to adhere to the F g rules of the road. No such thing as an overtaking lane, just lanes 1, 2 and 3 on the motorway or lanes 1 and 2 on a dual carriage way.

Nothing like "rules of the road" & "driver courtesy" to promote some healthy opinion @jim4244 - Absolutely agree, but when there are typically 3 lanes on a motorway, there is no need for the "lane challenged" to sit in the outside or middle lane when there is nothing within the other 2 or 1, it shouldn't even compute for them to be there but inevitably it does. I just fail to see the logic, I want to be inside lane if there is nothing else or requirement for other users to sniff my Supercharged fumes, for me it's a natural instinct ........no wonder I passed first time L322 Big Daddy SUPERCHARGED 5.0 Autobiography - Here & Now! 5 series for the miles RRS S/C factory built HST - Gone 45 others have been and gone! |

Jim not sure if thats a wind up, if it is you got me hook, line and sinker if not please refer to the highway code: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTrans.../DG_070308 where lanes 2 and 3 are clearly stated for overtaking, rules 137 & 138 Don't live in the UK anymore but we have the same problem here, and I often have to resort to flashing the lights to wake them up, stop them smsing/ talking on the phone and get into the righthand lane.... As soon as I pass the pull back out even when there's no traffic Some just drive in the outside lane because they think the surface is better.... On the other hand, I have sat behind a 20 year old 4x2 Mazda pick-up which is doing 140kph with a camel and 2 goats in the loadbed... When we bought the X6 it came as standard with Fast Lane Assist so when it senses it is entering a motorway it automatically goes from the slip road entry up to 90mph and straight into the BMW Lane and unless you override the system it stays there for the duration of the journey,it also has a lovely feature which dips all the mirrors so you don't get pestered by inferior people not in huge BMW's. As guyzer stated it is clear in the Highway Code that Lanes 2 & 3 are for overtaking. It's just common courtasy to pull back into the lower lanes as and when it becomes practical following an overtake. Of course, this would not be such a big issue if, as in certain states inthe USA, Undertaking was legal, but it's not so, if someone is being an incosiderate prat then you are stuck behind him till he deams to pull in! Of course, their is the equally guilty twits that steam up behind when the road is busy and you ARE overtaking but still think it's their right to harrass you from behind because you're not quite doing the 100mph they wish to be at even though you are passing another vehicle and have nowhere to go until you've completed the manouver... I REALLY hate those types In the end there are always going to be poor quality road users, the rest of us just need to take a chill pill and relax in the knowledge that we are right and they are idiots that are probably heading for their next stress induced heart attack 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black
