Strange front suspension noises (not knocking) SOLVED!

Hi All,

My 2007 TDV6 has developed all sorts of weird noises from the front suspension.

It appears mainly when the car has been driven for about 30 mins under deceleration and slight cornering or slight braking.
Sometimes it is a kind of creaking binding sound. Other times it is similar to a Censored cv joint. Recently it sounds like a brake pad worn to the metal (which it isn't and doesn't require braking to make the noise). It is also similar to a worn wheel bearing at times.

I put it on ramps and had a good look and the only thing I can notice is a lot of play in the lower rear a-arm bush on the front suspension. Is it possible one worn bush could cause all these noises?

I had the front diff and lower ball joints replaced under warranty so it is unlikely to be these.

Any ideas?

thanks,
Anthony TDV6, MYO7 Java with Ivory leather, 19 inch wheels

My sport has started to make a small creaking noise when manoeuvring, Dealer has lubricated and checked everything that moves and now suspect that there is a dry joint or something inside the suspension airbag, got to be booked in for the suspension to be disassembled Evil or Very Mad

Another issue with my sport, possibly will be replaced with a FFRR 3.6TDV8 Vogue SE if I can find a way to justify the extra costs to myself ( & SWMBO more importantly Laughing )

The diff started to make noises about a year and a half a go and was replaced under warranty. While it did cure this new noise that had developed at the time, unfortunately it didn't cure an ongoing problem I have had with a resonance/vibration at 1900 RPM. Which I am told is to do with the lock up clutches in the gearbox and is normal.
According to the mechanic the diff almost had no oil in it. TDV6, MYO7 Java with Ivory leather, 19 inch wheels

Hi All,

I had a good look at the suspension while the steering wheel was rocked and this confirmed quite a lot of movement in the lower arm bushes. Is there normally some movement here or should they be quite tight?

I also noticed a clunking from the steering arm coming from the rack. I suspect the outer bushes on the rack here but I doubt this is the cause of all my odd noises. My theory is that the lower A-arm is pushing up against the chassis (you can clearly see the marks from the rubber washer bump stops) transferring noise through the chassis.

I wonder how much this will cost to fix or wether I am better off buying an A-arm set and installing it myself?

cheers,

Mystery Solved. It was a crook wheel bearing (front left).
The service people were actually very good. They picked up on handbrake noise and cleaned and adjusted rather than replacing the mechanism.
They also replaced the steering fluid as they said it looked a bit crook, which got rid of some steering noise at slow speeds.
The mechanic advised me that when the bushes go they make a clonking sound when you brake hard, so no need to replace these just yet. TDV6, MYO7 Java with Ivory leather, 19 inch wheels
