Gear Select Drive V Sport mode

Can someone tell me if i was to do a 0-60mph sprint in "sport" mode ( not manual selecting gears ) and then a sprint in "drive" would there be any or much difference?

I have not timed this test, i am just bored and thought it up while eating dinner.

Any ideas Question --------------------------

Sport mode would be faster as it holds the gears to higher up the rev band before changing gear and also locks out 6th whereas just leaving it in D would cause the box to change up at the programmed revs and also slide the car into 6th at about 55mph - 6th is an overdrive gear so acceleration would be slower. Not sure if kick down would be any faster in full auto mode. You might even find manually shifting (commandshift) in Sport mode is even faster than letting it change gears itself in sport mode!

You could be right there Chris - IIRC sand mode now pulls the car away in 3rd gear too so less gear changes on the way as well! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Thanks for that explanation Tim.

Your right, its got to be tested and i shall do that at some point, interested to know what sort of difference in time there is.

If i have slid into sport mode more than half a dozen times, most by accident, then that would be all and any spirited driving has been done in normal drive and i have no idea why.

May go out now actually and give it a go.

Chris, i was told the same about sand mode by the salesman, not sure if the gearing could cope with a blast upto motorway speeds though without 8 pistons blowing and launching skywards.

I shall let someone else try that and wait for the results i think.

Is the gearing different for an S/C like yours - must admit I rarely use the command shift in normal driving with a TDv8 but its is very useful off road when using the TR and manual shifts. On the road kickdown manages OK for most sudden requests for some more speed 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Tim,
Just noticed you're selling your FFRR. You had both the Sport and FFRR. Which one did you prefer? Vadim A.

Vadim, that's a very good question and extremely hard to answer! From a comfort and economy point of view the FFRR wins hands down but with the 3.6TDV8 the FFRR's handling is nice but it doesn't handle as well as the 3.6TDv8 RRS with the DR. LR have cured that with the 4.4TDv8 as it has the latest version of DR and it is very very good indeed - ride is slightly firmer but that could also be put down to the 20" tyres that the FFRR now comes on. A better person to ask would be TBoner as he has a 4.4 TDv8 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
