Cost of fuel

Can someone who is cleverer than me please explain to me why with the price of a barrel of crude oil at the same levels as 2 years ago we are paying about 40p more per litre than 2 years ago, it can't be all tax! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

according to the table on this page:

http://www.candidmoney.com/articles/article186.aspx

since january 2009:
• a barrel of oil has doubled in price
• excise duty has gone up from about 52p to about 59p a litre
• VAT has gone up from 15% to 20%

one conclusion seems to be that the oil companies are milking it.

although the government still takes about 80p of a £1.30 litre of fuel.

http://www.petrolprices.com/price-of-petrol.html

so blame the government but buy shares in oil companies. Thumbs Up

Why do all other EU countries charge less for diesel compared to unleaded? I was under the impression that diesel was in greater demand nowadays and hence the fact it costs more than unleaded - doesn't seem to be the case in France, Germany, Holland etc. Another rip off? 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

exchange rate not moved in UK favour... Petrol is bough in $ and sold in £....For the example, if barrel of crude was today at the same price as two years and taxes unchange, the pump price will still be higher today due to the exchange rate... The sterling isn't worth as much dollars or euros as two years ago. Range Rover Vogue ‘17 TDV6

As I see it the actual cost of the fuel is not too relevant. Its mainly TAX.
In fact not only do we have to pay fuel tax but we also have to pay VAT on the fuel tax. So we are taxed for paying tax. Criminal.

Oil goes up prices go up, you get used to paying it, the oil companies know that, oil goes down, they fluctuate a few pence to keep you relatively sweet, oil goes back up they hike it and so on......

Diesel always used to be cheaper here until the rise in diesel popularity - demand went up, they saw the opportunity and price went with demand - most other things in life go down with increased demand and production .... except fuel Sad

With regards Diesel being cheaper...............not in all places, the prices have now sneaked up.........
http://www.drive-alive.co.uk/fuel_prices_europe.html

We have had years of being robbed through car use etc, only now are people thinking oh F Censored k.............if we had all stood together 10 years ago to get rid of the ridiculous escalator and forced the Dick Turpin taxes down instead of being spineless as the British are in this situations, then fuel would be below £1 per litre still............

All the emphasis to get Osbourne to scrap the 1p hike due in April is beyond belief..............if we were talking 20p then all good and well, its all too little and very much too late.

Its time to wake up to £1.50+ litre fuel, it will never be cheap again. Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry L322 Big Daddy SUPERCHARGED 5.0 Autobiography - Here & Now!
