battry light on ??

hi guys

just joined the forum.. sorry to bother you with a problem straight away but i have just (2 weeks ago) bought a rr sport hse 2.7 d auto.
so far so good loving it. but driving it 2 days ago battery light came on i was a little concerned but 5 mins later went off. started car yesterday battery light was on i thought it would go out after a while but no it stayed on for the entire journey (50 miles) driving it in dark with lights etc on

just done a check on the battery after vehicle been parked up overnight thought it would be a low reading battery reading about 13 volts without engine running... started engine tested the battery again same 13 volts
car sounded ok on turning over didnt sound slow.

i thought if the batt was the problem it would not have read 13v but if it was the altinator same thing realy would not have put any charge in the batt ??

any help much appreciated.
ps
exellent forum look forward to speaking to many of you now im a rr owner
john

United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Cairns Blue

I had this done on my TDV8 recently. Same sort of symptoms as you except the battery died too.

Cost of:

Gen LR Service Exchange Alternator: £161.44 + VAT
Coolant replacement LR supplied: £32.15 + VAT
Labour on a TDV6 should be 1.5 hours at whatever rate your repairer charges.
On the TDV8 it takes 3.8 hours! Big Cry I was at the LR dealer (as that's where i got recovered to when it died), their rate was £115 per hour (+ VAT). However the Service Manager did me a bit of a discount and knocked the .8 hour off as it was the season of goodwill! Shocked

Hopefully someone on here will be able to recommend a good local indy for you that charges a decent rate! Thumbs Up

Good luck!

Mark

tdv6 alternator replacement is a lot easier than a tdv8 alternator replacement and should be a lot less in labour
