300 ml in a tank full (85lt) is too much, next time you see a two stoke m/c touch the inside of the exhaust - if you really are going to do it; 100ml is OK - 150 ml max.

Well, according to YF on the fl2 site the rate should be 1:200, so 300 ml is even a bit on the low side.

Been adding that dose since new, now 30'000 km and no problems of smoke or else. '08 RRS TDV8

It's a judgement call.

I'm just giving my opinion as a auto design engineer. I have no idea how well qualified YF is or isn't.

Just consider that 2stroke engines rarely have very fine fuel filters, v.high pressure injection etc and 2stroke oils have, by design, very sticky properties. I'd also be slightly concerned that the oil control piston rings in the diesel engine may not function well with any significant traces of 2stroke oil so we'd want to keep the quantities small to ensure the combustion burn temperature wasn't lowered/raised and we inadvertently increased the unburnt portion that stayed as residue on the cylinder walls and found its way into the turbo.

After years of runing all sorts of fuels and mixtures for some very strange competition engines my view is that there may be some advanatge to the marginal additional lubrication of pumps etc but this only needs very minute traces hence my view on the 100ml. But I wouldn't go to war over the issue.

Hi lilweliwell

I am also using 2 stroke oil in my RRS, its made an amazing difference.

I beleive "FB" is fine for engines without a DPF, if you have a DPF you should oil rated "FC" or above. The colour will make no difference, this topic has been well covered on the FL2 topic.

I am using the recommended mix of 1:200 which is just over 400 ml to a full tank.

Jim

Hi Jim,

I am not sure about DPF (You ment particular Filter?)...have 2005 2.7 TDV6 SE...How can I check if the car is fitted with DPF or not? (Not first owner)

Hi lilweliwell

I am pretty sure you will not have a diesel particulate filter on your car, mine is a 2008 2.7 and does not have the DPF, however I seem to remember seeing this as an optional extra (but I may be wrong).

Sorry I could not be any more help, the best bet is to buy "FC" rated 2 stroke no problem then!! I buy mine from Screwfix £4.49/ltr.

I am asking just because I am second owner and don't have any clue if is there or not...I will use rather "FC rated" 2 stroke...just in case.

Thanks anyway

It is already some time ago that I read most of the articles, and what I noticed was that a small mixture of Bio diesel would already give a much better effect.

As here in Belgium biodiesel is already mixed with the fosil based diesel (irrc 10%, so a B10) i didn't proceed obviously. RRS SDV6 HEV Dynamic

You should be fine as some say 300ml or 400ml to a full tank, so I wouldn't worry, maybe top up with just diesel when it is quarter full. Let me know how you get on. Smile

So we've seen recommendations on this thread go from 200ml to 500ml; why not go on and add a litre, that'll be about 80:1 !!!

Your lawnmower will run fine on 50:1 and that's ALL the lubrication it needs while running a many more revs.

Just for good measure and to give a nice qiet engine you could relace the 30w engine oil for a 90w hypoid as used in rear axles - it will be REALLY quiet then - for a little while!! Best of luck with any warranty claim (Land Rover or after- market)

As an auto-engineer I'd strongly recommend you don't do it - if you don't intend keeping your RRS for long you probably get away with it.
