Hi all

A couple of questions please ?.

1) How often do you use the sport mode on the gearbox and will regular prolonged use cause any issues ?. The S/C feels so much more lively in sport as is to be expected but mpg aside is there a down side to sport ?.

2) I have been paying extra for Tesco Momentum 99 Ron unleaded for my past few cars and have continued to do so with the S/C, does anyone else use 99 Ron fuels or is normal unleaded the way to go given the type of car we have ?.

1) No, no issue at all...If it's on the car standard, why shouldn't you use it! You spotted the only downside...lower mpg...

A lot of people use Sport mode in town, one of the downsides of Sport is that it locks out 6th gear (so in town that isn't a problem!) Don't forget too that ifd you want to you can also manually shift gears sequentially in sport mode too, no need to use it purely for overtaking/ fast get-aways.

Cannot help with the rocket fuel question, both of my RRS's were diesels. I would say the engine is designed to run on 95RON so why pay the extra for super.............................. but I'm an apprentice Scotsman  2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I would say that unless it's been mapped you wouldn't notice any difference on super really. They would have been mapped as standard to run on 95 as Tim has already said. Had to run my Evo on minimum 97 but that was due to it being tuned.

Sport mode does not lock out 6th gear (on the TDV8 anyway) just that you have to get it up to about 170 - 180km/h before it will change up, as tested on the local autobahn

as for fuel it was the same for my WRX STi it had a minimum of 97 ron and warning stickers on the fuel cap to remind you but again it was tuned and had a switchable mapping, hold button B while pressing button A and then switch on the ignition but then it liked plenty of millars octane boost in the fuel. Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

My car is always driven in sport. I get better mpg aswell than 'D' since it's learnt how i drive and there's less pedal movement and gear changes.

I've only ever run the ultimate diesel and my cars as quick as a remapped one running regular diesel that I put it up against so I'm convinced! WINNER - 2008 Best All New Photograph

I think i agree, i have used Super for a few years and in a previous BMW 645 Ci which was run on Super i was forced to run on normal 95 for one fill up and the next day i thought it was dead, the difference (for the worse) was immense.

Is there a way to reset the gearbox (key to Pos 2, accelerator to floor and hold for 5 seconds for example) ?. In Sport mine is lively as heck but jerky at times, its probably learnt a different driving style over the years of 1 previous owner.

Rarely use sports mode.

A chipped TDV8 doesnt need it. Only time I use it is to get out of busy roundabouts.

Standard drive can seem a little sluggish from standstill

Sports mode always 500 revs higher. Which I reckon means more fuel.

I get 25.4 mpg over last three years   SDV8 vogue SE.

doesn't an engine need a knock sensor in order to take advantage of e.g. 99 RON?
