Just had a day of driving the new FFRR 4.4TDv8 - what a superb engine, phenomenal torque is available from about 1100 RPM in one big tidal wave right through to.......... well I never found out as the 6 FFRR 4.4's I drove today were all brand new the most miles on any of them was 155 miles and the lowest must have just rolled off a transporter as it only had 15 miles on it when I took it offroad! The engine is super smooth and although it has a nice growl when you nail it, it isn't as nice as the noise from the 3.6TDV8 in the RRS! Mid-range urge is simply breathtaking with the ease that it zooms up from 30-70. Also good to report that Land Rover has gone back to fitting Brembos again, they are sadly missing from my 2010My FFRR 3.6TDv8 and weren't even optional. The standard LR brand brakes aren't terrible, it just that after having the RRS with Brembos the braking on the FFRR isn't a patch on it. 2010My gets a few new toys like the Jaguar style gear selector, theres no detent around the dial but you also cannot drive off in Sport mode by accident, when you get round to D then you have to depress the knob very slightly to select the S mode. Other changes are that the car has the same TR setting for dynamic performance as 2010 RRS S/c and when you engage low ratio box and a TR special setting the car automatically rises to offroad height without you having to press the button (which is still there incase you want offroad height in high ratio). Available on FFRR for this year are reclining rear seats as an extra, however none of the cars I drove today had them fitted. Gradient Control is standard and all the cars I drove also had trailer assist. I have posted some photos in my Photobucket album

Exactly Tim, it's a PSA engine built at Dagenham by Ford like the TDV6 3.0 and the former 3.6 TDV8.

Unfortunately the 4.4 TDV8 is built in Mexico at the Ford chihuahua engine plant not in Europe at all? |
