4.4 TDv8 - it's a cracker

Just had a day of driving the new FFRR 4.4TDv8 - what a superb engine, phenomenal torque is available from about 1100 RPM in one big tidal wave right through to.......... well I never found out as the 6 FFRR 4.4's I drove today were all brand new the most miles on any of them was 155 miles and the lowest must have just rolled off a transporter as it only had 15 miles on it when I took it offroad! The engine is super smooth and although it has a nice growl when you nail it, it isn't as nice as the noise from the 3.6TDV8 in the RRS! Mid-range urge is simply breathtaking with the ease that it zooms up from 30-70. Also good to report that Land Rover has gone back to fitting Brembos again, they are sadly missing from my 2010My FFRR 3.6TDv8 and weren't even optional. The standard LR brand brakes aren't terrible, it just that after having the RRS with Brembos the braking on the FFRR isn't a patch on it. 2010My gets a few new toys like the Jaguar style gear selector, theres no detent around the dial but you also cannot drive off in Sport mode by accident, when you get round to D then you have to depress the knob very slightly to select the S mode. Other changes are that the car has the same TR setting for dynamic performance as 2010 RRS S/c and when you engage low ratio box and a TR special setting the car automatically rises to offroad height without you having to press the button (which is still there incase you want offroad height in high ratio). Available on FFRR for this year are reclining rear seats as an extra, however none of the cars I drove today had them fitted. Gradient Control is standard and all the cars I drove also had trailer assist. I have posted some photos in my Photobucket album

and I will add some videos later when I get some bandwidth back!
LR/RR simply has to fit this engine to the Sport - so many of the people I chatted to today commented that while their D4/RRS was a lovely car, this engine would make them fantastic cars. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I've added some more videos, have a very long video to add but my uploading speed is very slow tonight and will have to wait until later.
Officially the 4.4 is supposed not to fit in the RRS engine bay....................... but we were told that about the 3.6 too! AFAIK it's a JLR design based on the 3.0ltr V6 - like the 3.0 it is also has sequential turbos 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Well if you trace it back I think it is a Peugeot/Citroen/Ford built at either Bridgend or Dagenham for JLR............. to LR specs 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Exactly Tim, it's a PSA engine built at Dagenham by Ford like the TDV6 3.0 and the former 3.6 TDV8.

That was confirmed by a very well informed LR technician who showed us around at Solihull on Monday. The tour took us three hours in total and I was deeply impressed about everything I have seen. The output of the T5 platform RRS and Discos is just unbelievable, it's something like one car every three minutes Bow down Bow down Bow down , and all these cars are built on order. They must be real money spinners for LR.

Roughly 70% of the T5 platform models go to the US and the Gulf states !!, and more than 80% were black or Fuji white, which looked rather boring, about 10% Stornoways and Nara and the rest were Silver, Ipanemas and the odd Bali blue, which looked terribly tacky under the artificial lights Whistle Whistle Whistle

The offroad driving during the afternoon (jungle track, etc) was fun, but a bit too tame for my taste. I could do five circuits in total in four different models, FFRR, RRS, Disco 4 and Defender Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy SOMETIMES YOU'RE THE BUG AND SOMETIMES YOU'RE THE WINDSHIELD

2010 TDV8 Ultimate Edition, zermatt-ebony-grand lacquer, and all the goodies, plus Superchips Bluefin ECU performance upgrade, Gibson Performance exhaust tips

gone after only 7 months: MY10 TDV63.0 HSE, zermatt-ebony-anigree, Dynamic Response, Rear diff-lock, flappy paddles, premium leather, Sunroof, PTI, privacy glass, S/C design 5 Spoke Diamond Turned alloys

I've just added this video to my photobucket, there is also a post in the off topic with the same video

See if you can hear the engine just becoming audible - RPM doing this never exceeded 1200RPM, in low box 1st gear

Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated Mr. Green  2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Unfortunately the 4.4 TDV8 is built in Mexico at the Ford chihuahua engine plant not in Europe at all?
