Camshaft sensor

i have a tdv6 sport which went in to limp home mode.after the car had been stopped overnight it wouldnt start, further investigation revealed faults one egr valve and camshaft position sensor.both codes would not clear.on replacing the left hand egr and cam sensor the cam sensor now clears but car doesnt start and cam sensor fault reapeers on trying to start, its probably the other egr but i wouldnt of thought it would stop it from starting.the code for that comes back aswell.
Its obvious its the cam sensor but why ,any help please as i vow never to change either of them again.who ever designed them needs dragging behind my boat at 30knts in a force 8 gale lol.cheers John.

Hi Bobby.tried to send you a pm but not allowed as less than 5 posts would of been nice if it told me that before i typed it all. Mad
short version.we have 5 volts on the feed ,we have 5v to 2v on cranking.which i suspect is ok.if so does that mean your 5 possables are out of the picture.we have a good crank signal on the laptop from the crank sensor.we have good fuel pressure allthough the low fuel light is on.Battery is poor but we have it bolstered up.
Checking the loom back to ecu at the moment.I havnt heard of an egr valve preventing start is this possable.many trhanks.John.

Well checked the loom back to ecu cam sensor switching ok as is the crank sensor.
what do you think the discription range/performance meens for the cam sensor.
Whats the chances of valve timing being wrong due to kick back when engine was stopped maybe belt jumped a tooth or two heard of it on other makes.this would mean the two couldnt line up for start.cheers John.

Found the problem.removed front timing cover and the tensioner brng had disintegrated ,belt slipped due to slackness ,not very good for a 75.000 mile car, valves just catching by the feel of it,lets hope there ok,its amazing it drove home. Thanks to bobby for suggestions, put this one in your book mate.cheers John.

Thanks, started to fit new belt and tensioner ,strugled to remove the starter motor to get to the timing hole these designers really are crazy. The cars an auto so has different pin than a manual. We have found a hole close to where the original belt was fitted about 2 teeth away,we have used this but have piston and valve clash.
We may have valve damage but in the slipped position it turned over on the starter, any tips please ,it may be there are more holes, does any one know if when the pin is in the hole if no 1 piston is at top dead centre ,cheers.John. 2oo5 sport tdv6 (broken)

Had a good look at the failed tensioner today, its only got a single row brng in the middle of quite a wide pulley.
In engeneering terms i dont think its up to the job.i found on other forums this is not an uncommon failure.
Finally got the correct timing hole,it didnt help that they were labelled wrong in the kit.we have not got any valve clash, lets hope they didnt collide when it let go.will know tomorrow as we should have time to fire it up,or set fire to it depending on the result. Shocked 2oo5 sport tdv6 (broken)
